Surely one of the most famous British movie pubs is The Crown in Belfast, used in Odd Man Out. Apparently little there has changed since 1947.

Bit of a long way to go for a pint, though, if you're on the mainland.

Default Poet's Pub

Does anyone know where the location shots were filmed for the film 'Poet's Pub' (1949) starring Derek Bond and James Robertson Justice?

I know the indoors scenes of the pub were shot in the studio but there are some really nice outdoor location shots of the old pub, which appears in a country setting.

Dave.

They spend so many hours filming inside the pub for episodes of 'Heartbeat' that it must be difficult for the locals to know exactly when opening time is.

It's easier for the pub in Under Milk Wood.

The Earl Osbourne. Doesn't look much like a pub so I suppose the sign was placed there for the scene. Then again, a few to many entrances for a house.

Inn For Trouble with David Kossoff and Peggy Mount.

No details of location on IMDb though it does strangely suggest that it you liked this film you might also enjoy 'An American Werewolf in London'.

Default Governer General

The pub scene in "Defence of the realm" does anyone know the name of the establishment?
The pub "The Governer General" in "Long Good friday" was a little notorious in the 70's I thought it was in Bermondsey but now have an inkling it lay at the back of the Elephant and Castle

There is a pub on the A64 near York called the Buckles Inn that still looks as though it could feature in an Edgar Wallace film set in the 1950s. It looks as though it hasn't been altered in years.

My local pub around the corner from my house is "The Shepherds Tavern" on Shepherd Street, just off Curzon St London W1, if you find yourself at the wonderfully restored "Curzon Mayfair" cinema turn right as you exit the cinema and walk 20 paces and you are at the pub.. Its a loveley little pub and was used by Alfred Hitchcock in "Stage Fright" 1950. Jane Wyman and Michael Wilding meet there for a brandy. It is also about a 3 minute walk from the pub to the posh hotels on Park Lane such as The Hilton and Dorchester and Metropolitan and consequently the pub has become a local for visiting hollywood celebs staying at the big hotels who want to have a pint in "ye olde English pub". I have spotted Brad Pitt, Owen Wilson, Johhny Depp, and David Carradine from "Kill Bill" and "Kung Fu" having a drink there. Actually the night David Carradine was in the pub he was sitting by himself drinking whisky and looking very mean and unaproachable and indeed there seemed to be an invisible exclusion zone around him with the locals too scared to say hello or sit too close. Myself and my drinking companions were trying to persuade the barmaid with " see that guy over there, when he comes to buy another drink and you are giving him his change, can you hold the coins in the flat of your hand and say to him....as quickly as you can snatch the change from my hand..." She didn't know what the hell we were on about as she was too young to remember Kung Fu and didn't go for it, probably just as well, we might have found ourselves getting an impromtu lesson in the martial arts by Mr Carradine!

The crown in Belfast is a great pub, nothing has changed there in fact from the middle of the 1800's, a really great place to go have been there loads of times great people and a great atmosphere and its like stepping back in time.

Didn't Sergio Leone come to Ireland with James Coburn to film some flashback scenes of ex IRA man Coburn in a pub blasting a Brit soldier and Policeman with a shotgun, apparently a real pub interior with Coburn surveying the entrance of his enemies in the large bar mirror while sipping a guiness! ring a bell with anyone? It was a Fistfull of Dynamite but what was the pub called, Im assuming it was in Dublin.
