Nope my other half firmly belongs !

We got together over a common interest in fillums and cats. She educated me on World Cinema, and I showed her what had been done on her own doorstep.

She's the one with the film qualification, I'm just a happy amateur (in the true Ealing spirit, I might add !)

A fillum qualification? That sounds impressive. What sort of qualification?

My other half and I got together over a mutual love of table football - so nothing to do with this forum, I'm afraid!!

A certificate (of some sort) in Film Studies. Her tutor was Jane Root, who went on to be controller of Beeb 2...

There's a MARVELLOUS game of table top footy in an old Chris Lee TV movie 'Diagnosis : Murder'. It's between Jon Finch and Tony Beckley - the cops in the film - and it's more like shove ha'penny than footy.

Two fag packets for 'strikers' (no apparent goals) and a coin for the ball. Never ceases to crack us both up whenever we watch it.

Still not pulled any further AMICUS locales for you, but another one not a million miles away is the village of SHERE (Nr. Guildford), used for the 1964 Terence Fisher film THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING (1964).

But don't go on the days when they have antique fairs...HEAVING

Oh yes - Kingston - used for a night shoot in my fave TV series MAN IN A SUITCASE...you can clearly see the old (proper) BENTALLS neons in the background.

(Used to the savoury mince pie they served in Milletts restaurant there too! )

Sorry to but in and go off topic but Cushing has some great lines in this movie "I hope you enjoy snuffing it" and the mirror scene is stolen from the classic Ealing frightner Dead of Night.

Hi Billy -

You're most welcome to join in
Neither are you off topic...

Yes, "Snuffing it" is a grand line. I prefer to think of the old adage 'borrow from the best' apropos the similarity to Dead Of Night

The mirror story is my favourite ; wonderfully spooky !

And (of course) I love that straight to camera ending by Peter. I'm sure we'd all love to walk in and see if we really were...tempted.

Although Cushing's Yorkshire accent needed a little more work. Coming from Leeds we are strict about these things.

I also loved the episode with David(I look like I'm going to explode and go nuts any minute now) Warner I think it was entitled The Crasher?

I wish I had kept all my old VHS tapes now, I fancy a watching Torture Garden another Amicus fav.

Hello Billy! At last another to join this topic! Yes, I really like the "snuffing it" line - so corny, but I laugh every time I see it! I have Torture Garden on tape, and I think it's quite good, although critics don't seem to agree with me. It's got several rather good little stories in it. I don't know if you can copy tapes (I can't) but I could always lend you my copy ....

Thanks for the offer Diane but I can't copy tapes as I only have one stinking Video recorder.

As for the critics, send them to Peter Cushings shop, a nice surprise with every purchase.

I've been surfing the internet about this very film and found you folks chatting about it. Sorry to intrude, but I wondered if you knew whether this Amicus classic is due to be released on DVD? I've seen the Amicus compilation that contains Asylum and I wondered if there were plans to release any others. You seem very well informed.

Nothing pertinent to add other than I have been enjoying the thread and I love this type of film too. Jon Pertwee's "Cloak" in The House That Dripped Blood is a favourite

Not heard of any plans to release FBTG on DVD but do have an off-air digital copy on DVD...

Oh yes. and it was available as Laserdisc in the US a while back - you may find it on Ebay in that format.

I'm a very sad person who just LOVES Amicas compilation-type films.
In which case, do you remember a series on TV in the seventies called Thriller?? single one-hour films, mixture of crime and supernatural themes, with great casts, slightly camp fashions and occasional lapses of taste.
It's just come out on a huge dvd set, not cheap but it does fearture 43 episodes+ extras, can recommend it highly - if you are into those portmanteau films, you should enjoy it. You'll certainly recognise some faces..

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Well I never! Do you know when it's due for release? Yes, all the others on this forum are VERY well informed and I'm desperately trying to catch up with them!

Penfold, I'm not sure if I do remember this Thriller series, but I shall certainly look out for it. Thanks very much!

Yes Diane, to back up Penfold, you should enjoy THRILLER - it's been discussed elsewhere in the forum.

Penned by Brian (AVENGERS) Clemens, most stories ran just over one hour. Some clunkers on occasion, but generally not too bad, and great for 'star' spotting/character actors...

An extra in the boxed set is the one featuring Stanley Baker - 'Who Killed Lamb ?'

Hi there - just to let you know that the Amicus compilation is available now, 24 quid from Play.com. It contains a few films - 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors, 'The House That Dripped Blood', 'Now the Screaming Starts', 'The Beast Must Die' and 'Asylum'. If it had 'From Beyond the Grave' then I would definitely be making a purchase, but I am only really familiar with 'Asylum' on the DVD. It comes in a rather tasteful coffin-shaped package!
