Thanks for that smudge, very interesting.

The tennis courts were still there last year when I visited, though looking a bit unloved and possibly unused.

Am I correct in saying that the School we see at the beginning of the film is actually just a model?

Henry Palfrey (Ian Carmichael) alights from the train at "Yeovil", walks out of the station, (following the finger pointing signs), across some waste ground and then on to the School.

I'd would say so (or a glass shot at least). To me the tell tale signs are that the wonderful gothic design house is only seen in closeup by the columns surrounding the front door. We never see the school in wide shot other than the hero shot of IC walking across the wasteland. (which doesn't pan).

From memory, I think IC walks in front of the real elements, the school doorway/columns and gates but the shot cuts just as he is about to pass in front of the model/painting.

Yes he does walk through the school gates. I thought that the interior shots of the school were shot in a studio?

It looks like a studio set...no reason to think otherwise. but sometimes looks deceive.

The Happiest Days of your Life - which also has Alistair Sim, uses the exterior of Langley Place as the school, yet the interiors look like studio. But I read a post somewhere that stated they recalled the interiors being shot at Langley Place too -certainly the stairs and hall/lobby. (the poster was at school at the time)

The first time we see the 'school' in long shot is definitely faked.

Not panning when you'd expect them to is often an indication that they're using glass shots, hanging miniatures or something similar that only works from a fixed point.

The car showroom scene was filmed in Pinner Road, West Harrow. At that time there were many used car dealerships along that road, with cars on the wide pavement. But where is/was Thurley Croft? It must be somehere in the area.

Thurley Croft is just behind the old Odeon Hendon, which stood on the corner just by the traffic lights, now a red brick residential building. It is on a continuation of Brent Street as it goes up the hill (probably Holders Hill) it is immediately on the left. I went to see it last year having watched School for Scoundrels again for the umpteenth time! Still a great film.

As an aside. The car dealership was filmed in Pinner Road and if you look closely the bus that passes in the background is a 183. Which still transvereses the same route today!!!
