Default School for Scoundrels
Does anyone know where the tennis scenes were shot, in this film? Or, a site for locations would be ok. I have searched, without success. Cheers.

The tennis was played at the back of the half timbered building where Carmichael and T-T drive up. It is the Edgwarebury Hotel in Elstree - not far away from the old ABPC studios. Built in the 30s (?) it was originally a country club, became a hotel for some time after it's owner died. Of late it reverted to being a private club, but now I understand it has gone back to being a hotel again. It has featured in numerous films, NOT NOW COMRADE, THE DEVIL RIDES OUT (etc) and many TV Series over the years. I have stayed there a few times but can't recall the courts still being there, although the distinctive terrace balcony still is...

Would it also be the setting for Rod Taylor's training in Jack Cardiff's The Liquidator?

I seem to remember a timber-framed building and perhaps some tennis-courts below the lawns.

Various episodes of The Protectors, Dangerman and The Avengers were filmed at the Edgwarebury Hotel. It was also where Alex took his suicide leap in A Clockwork Orange.

Back I think to the original film, does anyone else agree that one of the best little "cameos" can be found in this pic with the superb Dennis Price and Peter Jones as the two grasping car dealers.

Any ideas where the car showroom scene was filmed in School for Scoundrels-also, any idea where the block of flats was where Ian Carmichael lived-I noticed the flats were called Thurley Croft which looked like a genuine name. In fact if anyone knows of any of the locations where the film was made I'd be interested as it is my favourite Brit comedy film. Cheers.

As has been mentioned elsewhere in the forums, the tennis club scenes were filmed at the Edgwarebury Hotel nr. Elstree - also used in THE DEVIL RIDES OUT and lots more... wink

I remember Ian Carmichael saying that he knew where the flats were, but I can't remember where -sorry! It is an excellent film though, Alister Sim! Perfect!

The Devil Rides Out actually stuck quite close to the book if I remember right. But why did they dub 'Rex van Rynn's' character with what sounded like Patrick Allen's voice?

The actor - Leon Greene - was Antipodean, but I don't think he had a particularly strong accent.

IIRC he was allowed his own voice in another Hammer - A CHALLENGE FOR ROBIN HOOD.

It was such a noticeable dub because they did indeed use Patrick Allen - it might have been less jarring if they'd used an 'unknown' voice.
