Can somebody please identify the road and grass bank, situated on a steep hill, where Bryan Forbes is bitten by one of the aliens. I am assuming it might be located somewhere near the Hemel Hempstead housing estate where much of the film was shot.
I went with some friends to the Shell Haven Oil Refinery in Essex a couple of years ago, which was used for the factory scenes, and told that we couldn't enter and that the site was due to be demolished!

It may have been on the South Downs outside Brighton.
http://www.hammerfilms.com/vaults/science_...atermassII.html This is where Donlevy's wig was blown away during filming and the crew had great fun watching him chasing it along the downs. |

I've always wondered about that, being a resident of Hemel myself. There is one possible site near here but it doesn't look quite right. I think its more likely to be Dylan's suggestion of the South Downs. Hope we can get a definate answer on this.

A friend of mine, quite by accident, has discovered where this scene was filmed. The area is called 'The Ridgeway' in Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire.

Hi.
Yes, Hemel Hempstead was used for some of the location work. At the time two new housing estates were being built. Warners End and Gadebridge. Certainly the rioting workers were walking in a road called Galley Hill. Warners End is the estate on the horizon. The camera is in Gadebridge. Quite a lot was shot in Warners End. The shot you refer may be there. But remember there are matt processes in films that make locations different. I am not sure where the original television version was shot other than an oil refinery in Essex. Possibly the same as the film version. Alan French. |

Okay - to make this quite clear
There is a road that goed down hill round Ivinghoe Beacon - used in The Avnegers, The Baron etc. - Quatermass parks his car at the top of the road Bryan Forbes walks down this steep bank and gets bitten (I think you can seen the cement works in the valley below). This is 100% certain - to ifs buts or maybes! |
