There is also The Deadly Affair (1966 - a bit after the time maybe) which was filmed primarily around the Clapham/Chelsea area of London and also in central London. The Balloon Tavern near the new Chelsea Conrad is still standing, although it is now a swanky restaurant. Great underrated film with loads of famous recognisable faces.

If you want to experience the atmosphere of west London in the early 60's, there's no better film than Michael Winner's "West 11" (1963) for a taste of dingy bedsit life. Mainly shot around Earl's Court, it also includes a wonderful scene in an ultra-groovy Wimpy Bar opposite the Aldwych - probably the best cinematic record of a Wimpy in its heyday.
And Winner's "The System", made the following year, gives a pretty good picture of life in a seaside resort -Devon, if memory serves - at the time. |

Another 50s film well worth checking out for its location footage is "The secret place" with Belinda Lee, Ronald Lewis and a very young David McCallum. For some reason this film seems to have gone out of circulation in the UK although it was regularly televised when I was a child in the 60s. Set in London, there is plenty of street scene activity which adds hugely to the enjoyment of watching it now.
