Default ACGAS-Simon Ward-location

Hello, Marky-B,

Apparently the Simon Ward version of ACGAS was shot in and around Richmond, North Yorkshire. Have a look at these photos:

http://www.richmond.org.uk/photoalbum/photos.html

I love ACGAS. The TV series became a lasting delight in my home. Whenever I have some free time, I go up and spend time with friends in Thirsk, a beautiful place. Little wonder that Herriot chose to stay there.

Best,

Barbara

Hi, Marky B,

Oh, isn't it though! I always pop in when I'm there. There are so many rooms and Herriot memorabilia to look at that one never sees it all the first time through. The gift shop continues to have new items. For those going for the first time, when you get out of the World of Herriot, turn left and go down to the church at the end of the street where James and Helen got married. It's a peaceful place to walk. Also worth a drive out to the Dales including a jump over the little brook featured in the opening credits of ACGAS.

What a lovely place to live. London can be in the middle of a rainy, damp, dark day, but the minute you hit York and north, the sky is blue and less humid, or that's how I always feel.

Best,

Barbara

Hello, Terry,

They are definitely on my list of dvds to get. My eyes are always too big. With the films borrowed from the library and the ones ordered, there's a stack by my TV just crying out to be watched. But that won't stop me ordering more! :)

Take care,

Barbara

Pressure of work is my reason for not watching DVD's at the moment. I agree with you Barbara - York is a great city, and just being in the North Yorks. countryside always recharges my batteries.

AlfWhite, who was James Herriot, was based in Thirsk. If you can get hold of his James Heriot's Yorkshire Book it gives the locations from all the films and the TV Series.
All tended to be filmed West of the A1.

I have a spare copy of James Herriot's Yorkshire if anybody wants it. It contains photography by Derry Brabbs and it is available on a first come first served basis. It is free,so just forward a contact address and it is yours

Default All Creatures Great And Small locations ( revealed )

It was mainly filmed around Malton. No details on the farms but apparently these were around Farndale, Hovingham and Sinnington. What about these locations though?.

Malton - Market Square. ( Herriot gets off the bus at the beginning )
( Darrowby market day scene )
( Herriot's wedding - St. Michael's Church )
Pickering - Houndgate Hall, Hungate ( Siegfried's practice )
The parish hall of SS Peter & Paul, Hall Garth ( the gramaphone thing )
Whitby - Swing Bridge ( looking towards Marine parade )
Marine Parade ( James and Helen eat ice-cream )
Empire Cinema, Station Square - now Boyes.
( Darrowby Plaza - where they see the wrong film )
* To be honest I'm not too sure about this - 80% sure *
York - Rail station, Station Road ( Herriot gets on the bus at the start of the film )

Hi Anne Marie. It would be fascinating to tell us all some of the stories. All Creatures Great And Small is IMHO the best of the country based sagas that have graced our screen. I got the DVD of Herriot's Yorkshire with Christopher Timothy presenting it.

I was also led to believe Askrigg was a place of Historical importance as far as the series was concerned.
I have a similar photo on the very doorstep.

You're talking about the TV series there, not the film mentioned above.

I grew up in Swaledale, and there are loads of locations in Swaledale and Wensleydale where they filmed the TV series. It seemed to be being filmed all the time when I was young!
