Just noticed the comment re D603 (the engine)
<train spotter mode on> I'm pretty sure that these engines were used on the Western Region main line, though I'm willing to be shot down in flames by a REAL train spotter* <train spotter mode off> Does this help? rgds Rob * on second thoughts, maybe not... |

LOL Spinalman !! quote=2nd edit: nope...portloe is inland by a mile.. - I think you should try some of my medication !!
In the 'bigcomposite' picture, the hotel has a sign which is half in view - it says .......TLE HOTEL - I'm sure you'll be right about it being used in other programs - usually the case. Sonny - South coast sounds likely - the shadows in the shots would appear to indicate that the harbour faces South-ish. Indeed - a Location Most Foul, at least when it comes to identifying it ! Rob Compton !! - REMOVE THAT MORTAR BOARD from your avatar AT ONCE ! - and replace it with a DEER STALKER ( elementary ) ![]() Locomotive "CONQUEST" D603 (more info on web) ( Ady wishes to point out that, although he has been known to shovel coal into a firebox on the odd occassion , he is NOT a train spotter - Trainspotting requires skills that Ady does not posess. ) Last edited by Ady; 06-04-2007 at 07:32 PM.. I would suggest CASTLE Hotel?
As for D603 and the Paddington line out of London, I would think that they wouldn't have gone too far out of London, perhaps not further than Maidenhead, Twyford?? Incidentally, in Germany I saw a boxed set of 4 DVDs for the Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple Films. 40 euros struck me as a tad expensive. |

Ady,
I think that I have tracked the location of the sea-side village in the film down to St Mawes in Cornwall (which is near Falmouth). Having been told that this is where it was filmed I took a look on google images and am quite happy now that this info is right. (If you go onto google images and type in St Mawes - it will bring up quite a number of photos. Let me know what you think) Have also found the following link (although in german worth viewing for the photos - The Ship & Castle Hotel was used for the scenes with the flashlamps signalling the ship. kk_stmawes_marple_big kk_stmawes_main Last edited by CC1; 22-09-2006 at 11:01 PM.. |

Good suggestion WeeSonny. I paid £34.99 for my 4 Marple DVDs from HMV last year when they were first released. - I wouldn't pay this much for other forms of entertainment !! ( Yorkshireman ) - isn't 40 Euros a bit cheaper ? !!!
Well Done, Clive !! You're a Sherlock if ever there was one !! - I must say , I'm impressed Guys !

for those of you who asked for locations used at the beginning and at the end when miss marple drives up a hill by a green verge i have just been today.
the film starred Margaret rutherford with real life husband Stringer davis & a young James Bolam. The shop the pub & the house are just as they are in the movie in fact the women would you believe used to live in the next village from where i now reside in west yorkshire, small world! The villge is SARRAT just off theA404 which is the amersham road between little chalfont and the m25 motorway, other locations for these films are aldenham denham the castle type building where finlay currie dies of a cat attack cannot be reached as it is in private grounds just off hillfield lane. the only location i didn`t find was the house used in murder she said with j r justice & muriel pavlow but there cannot be too many stone road tunnels under the railway embankment and surely it`s in this area every thing else is |

I was there in 2001 for a evening visit, ( meal at restaurant ). I had this strange feeling that I'd been there before - even though I knew I hadn't. Now I know why !!! - ( pass me another tablet please; er, better make it two !! ) I knew there was something niggling me about it. Good work CC1 ! Last edited by Ady; 30-09-2006 at 09:46 AM.. |

Well done, Steven. I thought the village store looked like the one in Sarratt but didn't voice my thoughts because I had a sliver of doubt. Looking again, I can now see it's obvious, the shot of the village shop is taken from the other side of the green, near where the pub is. The village also has connections with John le Carre, where he set a fictional (as far as I know) spy training school .
