The car park in Gateshead, where Michael Caine threw off Brian Mosley in Get Carter is to be demolished for a newshopping complex. I think this has been on the cards for a few years,as Sly Stallone was wanting to preserve it before he made his ill fated remake.

Thanks for the update Marky.
I cannot think of this movie without also seeing Brian Mosley's (AKA "Alf Roberts from Coronation Street") headlong descent from the top of the now famous car park. Brutal scene thought it is, it's counterpointed by one of cinema's most mischievously crafted lines when one of the two rather dandy architects on the car park, hearing the resulting commotion below - without having seen the cause - dryly observes that "I don't think we're going to get our fees on this one!" One of my all-time favourite lines. I understand there was some opposition from film-heads to the thing being torn down but let's be honest, like most public utility architecture from the 1970's it is an eyesore! Quote:

The announcements about the impending demolition of this car park have been going on ever since I lived up in Gateshead in the 1980s!
I've even read newspaper stories that say it has been knocked down! I'll believe it when I see it. BTW the "restaurant/club" that was constructed at the top was never used for anything. Always empty. I mean, who wants to troll up the top of a rough old municiple car park in Gateshead for a night out?! Shame though - it is part of an iconic movie. But the upper levels have been closed for years and the site must be worth a bomb for developers.

This has been ongoing for ages
I am not sure what the delay has been but I heard has been caused by the traders who work in the main shopping centre - they are trying to relocate them before they close the centre down for demolition. Cliff Brumby's house is also due for demolition or maybe has already been demolished. The owners (who owned it at the time of filming) have now died and the family want to develop the land http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/new...rter_house.php |

And, if you've got £1.75m to spare, you can buy Kinnear's house:
