Default Far From The Madding Crowd 1967

Does anyone know the location of the tower or folly used for the cock fight sequence? I know where many of the scenes were shot but this one has always been a puzzle. Also, a publicity short was made at the time with Julie Christie visiting some of the locations used, has anyone seen it or got a copy?

According to IMDB the folly is Horton Tower in Horton, Dorset.

There is a pretty good list of other location detail for this film there too.

Yes, it is in Horton - about six miles NE of Wimbourne Minster. Its correct name is "Sturt's Folly". I was on holiday in Dorset during 2001 and went to visit it. I expected it to still be the empty shell as seen in the film. However, the doorways and windows were all blocked off and so the interior is innacessible to location hunters. Even worse was the fact that the top of the folly was festooned in mobile phone masts. Such is the scourge of the modern telecommunications network!.

Horton Tower just outside Horton about 10 miles north of Bournemouth. Author Tony Reeves lists in some detail all the locations for the film in his book "The Worldwide Guide To Movie Locations" Titan Books.
