Violette was a Stockwell lass so it could be meant to represent any of the many parks and gardens from Stockwell through to central London.

I always got the impression it was meant to be Hyde Park or Green Park. I don't know if that's from something I read about where Violette & Etienne actually met or about the making of the film, or if it's just a general impression

All of the opening sequence was filmed in Stockwell starting with the house in Burnley Road and moving round to Stockwell Park Crescent for the scene with the bus. The most visible house in that scene has been demolished but the houses to the right of the bus as it pulls away are still there.
For the record; the 2 route ran from Crystal Palace Parade to Golders Green Station then sometime after 1951 (the date of the bus map I’m working from) the 2 was cut back to Norwood Garage and the 2B was introduced, which took over the section to Crystal Palace Parade and ran to North Finchley. Neither route went down Stockwell Park Crescent so the bus stop is a fake and the bus has a mixture of 2 and 2B blinds. The bus (ST 469) is now in the London Transport museum.

The park is the north side of Hyde Park, next to Lancaster Gate, and the boating lake in the background is the top end of the Serpentine.

Has anyone noticed that the German camp at the end of the film appears to have been built on the site of Hawletts yard from Hell Drivers? Look for the line of distinctive concrete lamp posts alongside a concrete slab road.

That seems to confirm the use of Pinewood in both cases.

For those who want to do a location tour, the 2 still does go through Stockwell, past the Violette Szabo memorial though it now terminates at Baker Street.

And for anyone interested in that memorial, have a look at my pages about it. It was unveiled by Virginia McKenna and Tania Szabo in a lovely little ceremony that I attended with a charming lady companion

Thanks Steve, it was nice to see the lady that had sent me emails about her mum. It's very touching.

How I wish that real heroes lives could be captured on film for all to see. And how wonderful it would be for those who were not yet born, to see and know about those that gave everything.

Treasure your moments, for they don't last forever.

The scene when she leaves on her final mission is very very moving. Acting of the highest order. When she leaves the house you see some house at the end of the road. Are they still there, anyone???

Indeed, Burnley Road was used - the only authentic location used in the film. 18 Burnley Road, where Violette really lived is on the other side of the road. Also the country chase sequences were shot at Burnham Beehes and Black Park Country Park & lake near Pinewood.

At the risk of getting shouted at for nitpicking on my first day here (sorry about that folks), the bus would be STL469 (registration AYV651) - it's a 1934 bus that's been with the London Transport Museum since 1954. At the time the film was made it was in store at Reigate garage. Here's a photograph from 1993:
The London Transport Museum's STL469 at Holloway Garage on the occasion of an open day
ST469 was a 1930 bus scrapped in 1950.

A valuable resource for tracking down which London bus route went where is Ian Armstrong's London Bus Routes, which has extensive route histories dating back to 1950 including vehicle allocations. According to this the 2B was introduced in 1956.
