Great site, CC. Excellent.

I found two different 'styles' of slideshows - one has an "1 of ## NEXT" set of forward and back arrows. The other style has the thumbnail 'crawler' at the bottom of the enlarged photo.

Do you prefer one? Is one more bandwidth friendly, or was that a reason for your choice of slideshow styles?

Your site lets me learn a lot more about these individual films I enjoy so much, as well as Ealing Studios. Thanks for all those - I am looking forward to reading it all of it.

Splendid work, I look forward to exploring in detail. Congratulations in producing something really worthwhile.

That Al Bowlly recording that loads with the page, was it used in your avatar? The Shining? It's many years since I saw the film but when I heard it I got a mental image of the barman at the long empty bar. I love Al Bowlly!

Sorry about this no there was no real choice i just used the first practice which worked as we had problems on the site with some pictures.
Very frustrating this is why the page took so long to complete. There was a lot more i wanted to add concerning the history of the church but i was advised to keep these pages as they are now. But glad you like the site

Yes you stand correct this haunting title was used in the the Film The Shining! I think that Stanley Kubrick had a great taste for what he thought was an appropriate piece and what was not but made a magnificent choice in choosing this title.
When i was first writing the site My beautiful Ealing I had the vision of The Halfway House in my mind and what that film summed up for me? Going to the actual farmhouse that was used in the film and standing in its grounds thinking about all the actors which were at this house it was just so ghostly and eerie. But looking at every aspect and bringing the event to its conclusion there was one piece of music in my head all the time i was at the Farmhouse and that was the track used in The Shining Midnight The Stars And You.
There was also a very significant part of my life when this film was first released and watching it the very first time the music stuck there in my head, My work colleagues to whom i had some very good memories of are now mostly all passed on The Halfway House and those guys who were a lot older than myself all fit this music. There is not one piece that fits this site better than this. Many people have contacted me and have told me they will put the site on just to listen to that music as it brings something to them? Strange isn't it? Especially when you watch The Halfway House and understand what The Halfway House did for people or rather those guests. Sorry to go on and on on!! I get told off for this all the time!

Most interesting, you choose your music as well as Kubrick did! There's something about this track apart from the sadness of Bowlly's voice and the arrangement which is so much it's time. The extra ingredient is the recording itself which is very resonant and sounds as if it were recorded in an empty ballroom. The sound of emptiness gives it an extra poignancy I think. A haunting record indeed.

Excellent site. Having only recently viewed "WTDW", it has saved me the task of asking the question on location.

Does anybody know the location of the house in the final scenes of Went the Day Well? (1942) when the villagers defeat the Germans?

Default WENT the DAY WELL?

Anyone know the village that took the part of Bramley End in this flagwaving Brit movie?
Got the d.v.d from the Daily Mail and thought the film was great, but kept expecting Michael Caine and Jenny Agutter to pop up in it!

"How about dat, a? How about dat?

It was Turville, Bucks - the village has been used as a location a few times.

You might recognise the church from The Vicar of Dibley or the golfing wedding in Dead of Night
