Especially sad that 40 years on and there's a damning MP's report on the neglect of elderly people in care homes and profit being put before welfare.

Yes, Edith Evans - amazing, spell-binding and utterly unforgettable: memorable, too, for everyone who worked on the film...
(A detail - when she and Eric Portman are on the bus home, they buy tickets for Cable Street - though the name may have been lifted from the book, and not refer to Manchester at all.)
