The only good copies known to exist are in the vaults at UCLA and the BFI.
A great shame as the BFI copy is super and well worth a visit to London just to see it - though I doubt you'll get as good a viewing as I had! Like Wolfgang, I can do you a copy of the version most of us have and I'm on your doorstep - up by Pontop Pike. Please remember it is of poor quality - but I'd still save it first of all my dvds in the event of a fire! FELL A signature is no substitute for a life |

Having received my copy of The Snow Goose from rezarected.com today I'd say it is slightly better than the copy that many of us have already, although I'd really need to play them both through one after the other to judge them both equally.
One oddity was that when I put it in my dvd recorder it played straight away but when I tried it again later it decided I had an incompatible TV system and I had to switch to NTSC! I've taken a still of the same scene from each so that members may compare - there certainly seems to be less shake on the rezarected copy: Frith looks at her portrait in the version many of us have: ![]() and in the rezarected version: ![]() There is a very slight difference in the timing but there was no shake in the rezarected version in that scene. Having finally got round to watching them both together, I can say that the version I've just got hold of is better than the one most of us have - far less shake. Stubbzie rated it 6 to 2 and I'd just about agree.
One thing I did notice for the first time yesterday was that they both have at least two scenes missing - indicating they've come from the same source. In both, PR sails off to the village and lands - but it cuts to his return to the lighthouse and Frith coming out of hiding behind the barrels. The scene missing is his first visit to the post office and then the chemist for the ointment. The second scene which is missing is from the finish of the building of the pen through to taking off the splint and "the coming of winter..." Strange that for all the times I've watched it, it never dawned on me that his first visit to the post office was missing. FELL A signature is no substitute for a life |
