Default The Snow Goose (1971)

Can anyone help me locate a copy of The Snow Goose (1971) starring Richard Harris and Jenny Agutter? Any information would be most appreciated.

Regards,

Anthony

I can't help you there Tone, but apropos of absolutely nothing, I remember playing an audio cassette narrated by Spike Milligan called 'The Snow Goose' with a haunting melody. Was it not written by someone called Gallico or some such name? I think Spike particularly liked doing this work, because of his revulsion at blood sports. violent

Good morning boys.

It was a book by Paul Gallico which was then adapted in various other media.
Paul Gallico info page.

As well as the Milligan version there's an audio book read by John Mills and various LPs

I am also an avid fan of Gallico's The Snow Goose as a book as well as a superb movie with Jenny Agutter and Richard Harris.
The original mocvie is apparently owned by Hallmark TV who (allegedly) have no plans to make it available. I wonder if they are waiting for the release of the new film (Again starring Jenny Agutter, presumably as Frith's mother this time.) The new Movie has Billy Connolly in it as well, presumably as Philip. No official website is available for the new film yet but maybe soon. Maybe Hallmark will market the original. I live in hope as I would love a copy.

There are those of us who can help

A friend in the States has been in contact with the Gallico estate who have no objection to a release of the original. As you say, it does seem to be down to Hallmark/BBC.

I never did understand Gallico's objection to a re-showing of the film since he'd worked on the screenplay.

The only consolation is that there are copies around and the original has not been lost.

Anyone wanting to make a jewel case insert for The Snow Goose might like to look at the image I've just added in the Jenny Agutter thread in Actors and Actresses - taken from the cover of the Penguin edition and tidied up so that you can add your own text as I did
http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forum/index.php...=20&#entry20702

If anyone wants the full-sized version which is 1.6Mb, just PM me - that's the one I used to make my own design

Just come across a posting in a films newsgroup from someone in the States who received an email claiming to be from Gallico's daughter in which she stated that the family felt people who circulate the tape were "robbing" her father. Perhaps they should have pushed for a commercial release if they felt so hard-done by.

My "shaky" version is my most prized recording and I'd certainly have paid more for a commercial release than any other film I can think of.

Perhaps surprisingly, no - although I'm sure you knew that

Nevertheless it is an excellent film - great performances from Jenny and Richard Harris and the depiction of the better aspects of humanity.
