Definitely a cut version, then - you'd certainly remember the lesbians, if only because the scene in question went on for so long and had nothing to do with the rest of the film. And it got pretty graphic towards the end, assuming you hadn't nodded off by then.

if a new version of Caligula is ever filmed,i would say that American actress,Paris Hilton, she may think she is an actress, would be well suited for the role that Helen Mirren portrayed. Paris has already had practice in sexual activity in video's.

The city was cold and the streets fairly quiet the night I was there.

Further to the Caligula thread, I find it unlikely that the US censors would pass this for release with the hardcore stuff included but times change I guess. How it stretches to a DVD set I can't imagine. My two and a half hour full-on version is lengthy enough - in more ways than one (ooh cheeky). No idea why there should be any worries about young kids as there doesn't seem to be any references in the film - maybe I've missed something? Cheers all

No, you haven't missed anything. Frankly, I don't quite understand why it was even mentioned...

I think McDowell was good in the role, when it came out in the cinema it was very much on the back of the TV performance by John Hurt in 'I Claudius' so comparisons were made and I had just assumed at the time that the film was cashing in on that controversy and success of the TV version of the story and character, or perhaps it was just coincidence but I can't help thinking that the makers of the movie had been inspired by the John Hurt performance in 'I Claudius'. I could be way off the mark in that assumption but the timing seemed to indicate that?.....

See Tom Dewe Mathews' Censored for a description of the footage in question - I'd quote directly, but I haven't a clue where my copy is.

Okay.

The only online reference to the 'questionable' material you mention is in the link below (referring to the fabled 210 minute version of the film). But bear in mind, it's only hearsay rather than factual.

Default Uncut ?

I purchased a copy in Bangkok two years ago. I don't know if this movie is completely uncut. However. it does contain some pretty long and strong pornographic scenes ! The sort of images, that would only be granted a 'R18' (sex shops) certificate here in the UK.

Maybe someone might know more about this 'release' that I picked up off the streets of Bangkok.... ??
