I'd be eager to see this one. As I've been making my way through Anthony Mann's westerns with James Stewart, I've been very impressed with him as a director.

Mann's westerns are superb ... my personal favourite being The Man From Laramie. If you haven't already, check out some of his non-western films, such as the French Revolution film The Black Book aka Reign of Terror. The best way to describe this film is as film noir disguised as historical drama and it's very good.

Sadly Mann died before completion and a lot of directing was taken up by Harvey himself. A very intriguing spin on the spy yarn this. Got it from amazon on tuesday. Great turns from Harvey, Tom Courtney and wonderfully, Peter Cook!

DANDY is rather fascinating, at least for the number of gay, camp, or "sexless" male characters (plus Mia Farrow looking like a boy!) -- even Peter Cook's ladies' man character is devilishly camp -- which seems accurately to reflect the nature of sixties spying.

The best Mann stuff, for me, is his films noir from the forties. Certainly fans of his dark psychological westerns will find plenty of similarities in a film like RAW DEAL, shot by the great John Alton.
