Here's the best place for Al Bowlly recordings:
Welcome to the Dutton Vocalion website Just type 'Bowlly' into the search box. Dutton's CDs are not expensive and the remasterings are of breathtaking quality. Ted |

Having just watched a documentary on BBC 4 about Al bowlly I thought I might try for some of his films.
ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS 1931 THE CHANCE OF A NIGHTIME 1931 THE MAYORS NEST 1932 UP FOR THE DERBY 1933 Also The Big Broadcast of 1936. The documentary says he doesn't appear in it but he's in IMDB for it. Have loads to swap or happy to pay. Regards, John. |

Another film in which Al can be glimpsed briefly is the 1933 version of Bitter Sweet with Anna Neagle. Lew Stone's band features in this (Al was guitarist and vocalist) and Al can be seen near the end of the film with cigarette in mouth when another band member, legendary trumpeter Nat Gonella, sings a short chorus. In the opening shot Al can also be seen playing his guitar, although we only get to see his musicianship in this clip rather than his face, as the camera pans across some mebers of the band.
