Default One from '41: Roddy McDowell

Does anyone have This England or any other Roddy McDowell films from the period or earlier? I've always liked his puck-ish sense of humour. Just watched him in Cleopatra and episodes of Planet of the Apes and I'd be interested to see him in films he made around the time of How Green Was my Valley, when he was but a little chimp, I mean chap.

Well, I think the films of that time that McDowell appeared in were mostly American - but if you have the chance to see "The Pied Piper", it is excellent. It has not been available here in the US on either DVD or VHS, to my knowledge. I don't know why. I saw it on television many years ago. It is about an Englishman (Monty Wooley) who is caught in France at the beginning of WWII and has to bring several children - including McDowell - out of France and back to England.

If you have the chance to see it, it is worth watching.

Yes, I've got a DVD copy of The Pied Piper (1942). Probably from a VHS or TV so not great image quality - part of the problem is the director's constant use of moody darkness and shadow - but watchable. Monty Woolley has a lot of fun in the role of the crusty Englishman. I'd forgotten Roddy was in it.
The ones I'd like to see, aside from This England, are Confirm or Deny and Man Hunt, both made in 1941, the same year as How Green was My Valley and positively reviewed.
Thanks for reminding me Tim, I'll watch Pied Piper this afternoon
