I understand the Army propaganda short The New Lot was a kind of draft for The Way Ahead, and the success of the latter film stung the RAF into commissioning School for Secrets.
Does anyone know anything about the casting of tyro James Robertson Justice in Ustinov's Vice Versa?

The New Lot started life as an Army training and instructional film, written by Peter Ustinov and Eric Ambler and starring some of the cast that finished up in
The Way Ahead (Niven came in later). The training film had upset some Army top brass with its frankness and was suppressed. It has recently re-emerged thanks to a copy found in an archive and it was included in a DVD from DDHE. But that doesn't seem to be on SHE's list as yet
As for
Vice Versa, you could more readily query the casting of the tyro Anthony Newly as the juvenile lead. JRJ had already done 5 films and of course a fair bit of other work
