You can get a multiregion player for around £20 from amazon.co.uk - then the world is your oyster for DVDs. Essential I'd say!

Multi-Region DVD players

Or just go for this one:

Philips DVP3120 - Multi-region capable DVD Player

And many region specific models can be deprogrammed to play all regions as well. There are lots of techie sites on the web where someone can help you figure out how.

I've seen Region 2 copies available on ebay, but not sure how legitimate they are!

Anyone who is well acquainted with George MacDonald Fraser's Victorian poltroon will know that the books are simply a delight!
Royal Flash is set in 1948 ostensibly centred around the Schleswig Holstein question - Bismarks first cog in his pursuit of a Pan-Germanic empire, but is a very clever interpretation of The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope (Hawkins).
It stars Malcolm McDowell in the lead role playing against Alan Bates as Rudi von Starnberg (the two respective roles in the original 1937 film played by Ronald Coleman and Doglas Fairbanks Jnr. and in the 1952 remake played by Stewart Granger and James Mason).
Oliver Reed plays the part of Bismark himself.
Brit Ekland plays the princess.
It is one of Fraser's best Flashman novels- my personal favourite is
Flash for Freedom and Flashman's Lady.

Flashman at the charge and Falshman's Lady for me.

Cheers everyone for the advice, yes I suppose I'd better get my behind in gear and opt for a multi

PS...I never thought McDowell was well cast as Flashy, quite the wrong shape and stature for a start. Nicol Williamson might have been more interesting, or Ollie himself.

I vaguely recall Fraser saying in interview something I had thought also: that McDowell and Bates should have swapped roles.

"Trust me, I'm a doctor...!"

Though Fraser also said that he thought the perfect casting for Flashman would be John Alderton. Which I find rather hard to imagine even if he made rather a good cad in Upstairs Downstairs.

John Alderton was actually cast as Flashman by Richard Lester in an adaptation of the first novel in 1969.

The project came within a month of filming until a United Artists exec objected to Alderton and Lester had to put it aside for 5 years or so, by which time McDowell was cast instead.

I actually think Richard Morant would have been ideally suited to play the arch victorian cad.
He played Flashman in the mini TV series in 1971, and of course later became Dwight Ennis in Poldark.
McDowell's portrayal had a hint of comic strip to it, which I think tried to interpret the way Fraser wrote the novels, parts of which are hilarious.
