Default The Boy and the Bridge. 1959

Hello All,
Looking for this film for a friend and myself. My friend recommends it, I've nevers een it. It stars Ian MacLaine as the boy with various familiar faces. Liam Redmond, James Hayter, Geoffrey Keen to name but a few. Loads to swap or happy to pay.

I'd love to see it again. According to one user comment on IMDb it was on TV, so there's a chance.

The BFI in London have a copy of Boy and the Bridge. Viewing in a booth can be arranged via the BFI website BFI | National Archive | Accessing the Collection | Research Viewing Service.

Quite expensive - it works out at £28.75 + VAT. Ouch!

It was the first film produced by Kevin McClory. It did well on the European film festival circuit at the time but failed to pick up proper distribution and failed commercially, losing McLory and his business partner a substantial sum of money. McClory was banking on making some money from the film to help finance development of the proposed first Bond film (Thunderball) and the failure of "Boy and the Bridge" helped scupper plans to raise finance for Bond! If "Boy and the Bridge" had been a commercial success the history of Bond movies might have been very different! Im reading about it all at the moment in Robert Sellers' book "Battle for Bond" in which he documents in some detail the history and background of "Boy and The Bridge"

Just to correct my earlier posting.
I mis-read the BFI literature and the cost of viewing is £12.50 per hour for film and £10 per hour for VHS/DVD plus VAT, based on the film's running time. Boy and the Bridge is a 1½hr VHS = £15 + VAT.
Fascinating stuff, christoph404. I shall view the film with a slightly different perspective in the light of that info.

There have been several threads asking for this film, but sadly it looks like it's not available - at least in this community.
I hope I'm wrong!

I remember Kevin as a boom swinger, at Shepperton. A wild and funny man!
