This has been one of my favourite films ever since I first saw it in 1967 and, in my view, it's one of the few films of the period that hasn't dated at all, apart maybe from one or two of Audrey's outfits. I just love the way the two stars interact - and they did more than that, of course, this being a celebrated on-set romance - the way that Raphael's fabulous script weaves its time structure and Donen's elegant direction. There's little 60s tricksiness to it. And anyone who drives through France carries this movie in their baggage. TV showings are rubbish, as is the R2 DVD which is a dreadful transfer and pan-and-scanned. The R1DVD is excellent in all respects.
