Just to change the stance of this post slightly - Are there any posters on here in the legal profession?
As most of us know, logos have a burn in factor on your TV screen which damages the screen. Would it be possible to claim damages legally if we formed a group to sue TV channels for 'screen damage?

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I think it'd be a way for lawyers to make some money - but they'd be the only ones to profit

I recorded it when it was shown on ITV back in 2003, sans any onscreen logos.

Many viewers detest on-screen "dogs" and all the other things that detract from tv viewing now - the incessant talking over credits, red buttons, etc. All of these things "spoil" the experience of watching, and I would be surprised if I was alone in thinking this.

Definitely the most annoying thing for me is the talking over end credits and, more recently, this new toy that whizzes the screen down to a quarter its normal size so they can fill it with captions of what's on next week/tomorrow/in two minutes while you're struggling to read the name of that character player who was 'second man in pub.'
Saturday's two movies didn't suffer from this, but both of Sunday's did.

I agree, that's much more annoying than any DOGs or signers. Especially if you want to get the details to add them to the IMDb

Ah, those were the days MtT....Dad and I recording away with those Philips 1500 VCR tapes and no logo on screen...

Yes I agree. The DOG gets on your wick when something is taking place under it. Loved The Black Rider film though and thank you BBC for showing it.

The best TV this weekend for blinkin years!

Just to highlight my total ignorance in these matters - I think I know what a DOG is, but what does DOG stand for ?
Also, in other posts I've seen IIRC - what is that ?

DOG = Digital Onscreen Graphics - as in the BBC 4 logo

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly

IMHO = In My Humble Opinion (see also IMO - not humbled!)

There are loads of these...

DOG = Digital OnScreen Graphic (Needed to let the dumber section of the audience know what channel they're watching). It's so difficult now with all the channels, how kind of the broadcasters to help us mere mortals cope with it all.

The heroine was a librarian! How could I not be involved? Plus there was puzzling why the hero's mother spent so much time at the house of the heroine's father, either doing the cooking or wearing a dressing gown....

Just loved these films and a joy to see something new to us on TV. Like you Cap the logo did not bother me that much although nicer without. Ah, the modern world..

Update: Oh Earl, do not buy a Plasma Screen as they dont like these logos and suffer from burn in as its known in the trade.

I rarely notice them. And the one on BBC4 isn't very obtrusive
Similarly with signers on the late night shows. I watch the show, not the signer

...and not only is she a librarian, but she's also Rona Anderson! What more could anyone want?

Did I also spot Eliott Makeham in an uncredited role, asking Rona where the fiction section was?
