it taught me that if you want to kidnap a librarian, just tell them you've got some books in the back of a van and they will immediately get overexcited and climb in.
Doesn't work so well in real life if you're thinking of trying it at home.

You'll know better than me, Captain, but I'm not sure librarians get excited that easily!

Anyone else notice the two early Vespa scooters in the off road sequence riding along with those bikers? Nice to see these early scooters with the headlight on the front mudguard which was later moved to the bars as we have today. Just a little technical point...

Were they mods who had excaped onto the wrong set?

I am amazed to see the hostility towards me (including suggesting I am a bootlegger) just because I don't want to see a DOG in the corner of the screen, when watching a film.

As a collector of classic films, I try my best to find a good quality copy and I am not shy of buying the films, where available, commercially. I can quite sympathise with those who find it equally tedius, the talking over at the end of the credits, as well as the other annoying traits such as displaying the next programme, or "letterboxing" the screen to advertise another programme.

I am pleased for those of you who don't see the annoying DOGS or other things.

I merely asked if someone had a copy of the film. I thank those of you who responded and am sorry if I offended anyone, by turning down their kind offer, for my own reasons. (I'm beginning to wish I hadn't asked, now and will be very careful in the future, not to offend some of your "sensibiities").

I wonder if you all like Marmite!!

Hey FilmBuff..If you like old film mate you are an OK guy.. Me thinks its better to collect than loose a film and to be honest if the industry had not been so tight years ago in holding back prints they may not have lost so many old flicks. All we hear these days is help us find a missing film, but years ago it was hard to get anything at all. Its a good thing some of us had vintage video systems also and my family in the mid 60's were recording on low density open reel at this time.

Nice to read a message from Sevenoaks chum and when you pass through Rochester next time give it a wave for me as its where I used to live.

Take care!

I love Marmite .... I also find some DOGS annoying as well. Re collecting films .... if they are not available 'officially' we have to get 'em where we can!

I have around 650 films to date, a considerable number of which I have bought on VHS or DVD. I have managed to transfer my VHS titles over onto DVD, but I also have some very rare titles recorded off the TV. I enjoy trading and take great pride in my trades, as I know how good it is to be able to watch a film for whatever reason. It is also a great way of sharing one's passion, with others.

I started collecting about 15 years back, when DVDs hadn't been invented and there were precious few titles released on VHS, so it was the TV or nothing. I am glad to see how many classics are re-appearing, but it is still sad to find some are not available commercially and one has to wait until a viewing (usually on CH4) comes around. I do scour the charity/secondhand shops, as well as Ebay and Amazon et al regularly and have managed to find some rare items, but my quest for as many classic, British films as possible, is not always easy to fulfil from these mediums alone.

I notice the "DOGS" don't appear during the adverts or the information clips! Surely, if they want us to remember what channel we are on, what better place to advertise it, than where the advertisements appear and where we might remember where we saw some product advertised!

I passed by Rochester only yesterday, as I have friends who live there and, having recently worked in Chatham, I used to travel to Rochester for lunch. I do so love the high street, which is very original. (My colleague who lives in Rochester is also a film fan and we spend many happy times, quoting from our favourite films. It very much adds to our humour and character, I think).

Great to read you mail and hear of your love of film. My Dad lives very near you and although 90 and not so well at present he loves the old B&W flicks. His fave is Alice Faye and Dick Powell, but he also very much likes British films such as Jossa in the Navy. He used to show 17.5mm films at Lower Halstow in the village hall during the war years and also the information films on 16mm. Loads of stories he can sure tell re this time and projecting the old films. I only wish I could locate "Josser In The Navy" for him to see once again before it is to late if you know what I mean as I would love to see the look on his face.... He has been after this for years and the last time he viewed was in the early 40's in that village hall.

Enjoy your private film collection my friend..

Goodness, it's a long time since I was last called a "lad"!

In the words of someone from a film (do let me know if you know which one it is; no prizes, but I'll give you a gold star, if you're right), "You rob me of words".

Thanks all.
