Default Ronald Shiner

Looking for three starring my hero

Worm's Eye View (51)

See how they run (55)

My Wifes Family (56) [or in fact ANY version]

also 'Rise and Shiner' a lost commercial from the 1940s

Will even consider 16mm prints if necc.

The first two were massive hits - how come they've vanished so completely?

When I was about ten years old, I lived Germany with my parents (my father was in the British Army). I was a fan of Ronald Shiner and one Saturday myself and a group of friends were at a British swimming pool in Minden. Ronald Shiner appeared with a couple of friends (he was in Germany performing in the play "Seagulls over Sorento").

My friends dared me to ask for his autograph. So I went over to him and asked for five or six, explaining that my friends were too shy to ask themselves. He was absolutely charming, called over my friends and chatted to us for about 15 minutes and gave us all his autograph. I recall that he wrote a short rhyme before each signature. Mine was "Good old China, Ronald Shiner". A real gent.

See How They Run seems to have disappeared although it is listed with the BFI. Occasionally press books turn up on ebay but never seen the film turn up yet.

I suspect part of the problem is that Ronald Shiner is to some extent a forgotten figure (compared with Norman Wisdom) despite being a big name in the 50s. The best hope I would suggest is to contact Odeon cinema (I asked them some time ago) and other DVD releasing companies and barrage them with requests (encourage others to request the title). It might encourage them to make an effort and release the title. The only possible reason for its' current abscence might be rights. The play is still revived today and was later done on TV in the 80s.

That's the joke that killed the Music Hall

Like Ronald here also and it would be nice to see a DVD set of his films. Have a couple of his flicks on film myself.
Nice to see Ronald with our Mr Pastry also in "The Butler's Dilemma"
Happy days

I worked with his son, Bryan a few times. Wonder where he is now... looked just like his dad.

I think you either like his style of acting or don't really.
I'm mixed.
I reviewed a couple of films that he was in for a writing project about Sid James and must say I liked him although he wasn't much of an actor. amazingly he had top billing over many more established comedy names.

I am currently watching "Keep It Clean"which was shown a couple of weeks ago on movies $men.He sems to approach this role as if he is shouting out so that evryone in the Upper Circle can hear him.I used to go and see his films when they came out in the 50s and 60s.he seemed funny then, less so now.
