Michael,

Mask of Dust came out on DVD through DD Video in the UK, and featured some interesting special features (Movietone news reports: BRM wins at Goodwood, Motor Racing: The 1955 British Grand Prix, Thank You Stirling - career retrospective).

In case you're interested, DD Video also released some other early and previously difficult to find titles: Stolen Face, The Four Sided Triangle, and Spaceways - each with a Hammer short as an extra (respectively: Danger list, 1957 / The Right Person, 1955 / Operation Universe, 1957).

Sorry, but I don't have any of the other titles you mentioned.

The Flanagan Boy is to be released on DVD this year by VCI Entertainment (under its US title Bad Blonde), in the US, with The Glass Cage. It's the part of six double bills. The Lady in the Fog is being released separately.

I'm up to my neck in research at the moment on a couple of Hammer projects - and its made me very aware of the gaps in my own Hammer collection. I'm trying to gather together some of the missing titles for viewing as part of the research (you can't write about films you haven't seen!).

Wondered if anyone can help?

Am looking for copies (NTSC or PAL, DVD preferably, but VHS if need be) of:

Public Life of the Henry the Ninth (1935)
The Bank Messenger Mystery (1936)
Sporting Love (1936)
Death In High Heels (1947)
River Patrol (1948)
Who Killed Van Loon? (1948)
The Snorkel (1958)
Yesterday's Enemy (1959) -scope print
The Ugly Duckling (1959)
Don't Panic Chaps! (1959)
Visa To Canton (196) - have a ropy copy in colour as Passport to China, need a better one
A Weekend With Lulu (1960)
Watch It Sailor! (1961)
The Pirates of Blood River (1962) - scope print

Also, if anyone has any of the Hammer shorts, I'd greatly appreciate them too. Have only a couple to hand, and possibly a few others on the way during the next couple of months. Have Operation Universe, The Right Person, and Danger List off the DD videos.

Does anyone have:

Polly's Two Fathers (1935)
Crime Reporter (1946)
We Do Believe In Ghosts (1946)
Material Evidence (1947)
Tale of A City (1948)
The Mirror and Markheim (1954)
A Body Like Mine (1955)
Eric Winstone's Stagecoach (1955) scope if possible
Cyril Stapleton and the Show Band (1955) scope if possible
Copenhagen (1956) - scope print if possible
Day of Grace (1957)
Man With A Dog (1957)
The Edmundo Ros Half Hour (1958) -scope if possible
Clean Sweep (1958)

Or indeed any of the other Hammer/Exclusive shorts not listed? Even a loan of a 16mm or 35mm print would be useful if it can be arranged.

Thanks,
Robert

Some shopping list, What's it all about Alfie?

It is cruel to discover one's mediocrity only when it is too late.

On occasion they pop up on the Unofficial Hammer Films Site which I've been running since 1999 (PlaceHolder for avalard.com).

But this material is needed for a short documentary film and a book I'm working on - both of which are due out early next year. I'm trying to get as much of the additional legwork done now, rather than try and assemble missing chapters in the weeks before Christmas.

The huge gap in my extant collection, which I need to fill to properly complete the research I'm engaged on for a book on Hammer due out next year.

A friend is able to help with lots of the Exclusive pictures, but the shorts in particular remain elusive as do a handful of the Columbia distributed pictures, and a few of the earliest ones.

I can track down a couple to archives, but I need a more cost-effective way of getting hold of the material as I'm on a stretched budget as is

I might be getting a copy of The Snorkel from a friend so that's not my biggest worry.

I know about Pirates on Sky Cinema, but its a fullscreen pan&scan print. Looking for a scope version.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Actually I don't sell.

Used to be a service I did for people - and the suggested cost was to cover costs incurred and to deter bootleggers who then flog them on ebay.

Used to do a lot of trading a few years ago before I got stung with really bad copies.

Hadn't touched those pages in a couple of years until recently. You've reminded me to correct wording. But I appreciate the cynicism.
