On occasion they pop up on the Unofficial Hammer Films Site which I've been running since 1999 (PlaceHolder for avalard.com).

But this material is needed for a short documentary film and a book I'm working on - both of which are due out early next year. I'm trying to get as much of the additional legwork done now, rather than try and assemble missing chapters in the weeks before Christmas.

So your willing to pay good bucks for rare material then, considering that you will have a doc and book out of any trade.

Thanks for the reminder. I've corrected the wording - I thought I had ammended the page some time ago.

It was the dodgy copies that everyone used to pass around that stopped me trading. I used to do very good dupes before I went all digital, and got barely watchable stuff in return.

There shouldn't be any alarms raised with the site - its perfectly legitimate. I make no money out of it at all. I'm still quite happy to do a trade though with you if I do have stuff you want. That's the way all us cinephiles used to work after all. Before Dvd meant that just about every film you wanted was available (with the exception of my expansive want list of course!).

Depends what you've got and how rare it is

Seriously though - its a very short academic film which I'm funding from my own pocket with borrowed equipment (in something of the true Hammer tradition). The finding of the films won't affect that at all actually - its not using any copyrighted material, and probably will be of interest to half a dozen people.

The book isn't expected to make me a fortune either, and I've already had to spend far more than I had planned on getting material. A labour of love. The book comes out either way - but I'd rather it was accurate, and so if anyone can help with copies of the films that would be great.

I'm happy to do a trade or pay a reasonable price for copies of the films. But there's no point in trying to make a quick buck out of me - because I'm not supported by any company, and I'm not in the position of paying hundreds or thousands for a film.

Help. please?!

That's the problem I'm having getting hold of them. Most of the usual Hammer crowd aren't interested in the earlier or non-horror material, which is a shame, cus there's lots of interesting little films there.

Aw well.

Hmm - well, the site is legitmate. What's the problem with it exactly?

The trade pages are a grey area - its as legitimate for me to offer to trade tapes as it is for anyone on this board. There's plenty of sites that actually function as a business with that sort of service - several of which I've seen links for on this board, and several of whom are regular ebay bootleggers.

Not pointing fingers, just defending my corner.

HammerFilms.COM seems like the logical place to go but it's VAULT section only provides a cumbersome Year By Year listing service. And that doesn't include always-correct info on DVD Availability.

For example, in its 1964 Archive section, it lists EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN as not being available on DVD, but it is. And for perhaps a year, or maybe more.

But THE GORGON hasn't been made available.

PARANOIC is available on DVD as well, but is listed as Not Available on DVD.

Here is IMDB's listing of Hammer Productions:

Hammer Film Productions [gb]

I don't know if this IMDB list is complete. THE VULTURE (1967) and DEADLY BEES (1966) have the same "look and feel" of Hammer production, but IMBD's text doesn't mention Hammer. The sets, atmosphere, backdrop mattes, the extras, the blousy cleavage and Eastman Color are exactly the same as the other mid-60's Hammer films. If these two aren't Hammer films, then Hammer employees and Hammer stages appear to be used.

What a great site. Mr SmartyPants refilled my coffee and then used his sharp elbows to get me out of the way and read it instead. One of these days, Mister... one of these days...

As far as I know "The Brides of Dracula" isn't available on dvd. I wonder why. To my mind it's one of the best.

Thanks for the info on the Zeta Minor site, its great.
I am paricularly interested in finding if available a dvd version of a hammer film starring Rupert Davies as I think a priest who is engaged in a battle with Dracula, set in some Ruritanian village.
