If anyone taped this off Ch. 4 today I would love to get a DVD-R copy. I've just got a VHS of the John Mills 1935 version "Forever England" via eBay and it would make a nice matching bookend.
Thanks

Dear Nobby,

I made a DVD-R disc directly off the Channel 4 broadcast today and edited the commercials out. I would love to have the 1930s version as a bookend, too. Could we do a swap?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks,
Aphra

I didn't see the latest showing but presume it was the usual Channel 4 version with the two alternative endings. Was this a gimmick, or did the film company do this as a genuine reason to ascertain the audiences' preferred ending?

If the film was shown commercially with just one ending, which which version did they use. Jeffery Hunter dead...or alive?

Does anyone know any other Brit films shown with two endings?

It was a great little Boy's Own adventure, but I always thought, in reality, Brown would not have stood any chance when the big ship's guns were turned on him.

The dual ending is on every screening of it that I've ever seen. They pretended that they want the audience to let them know which they prefer - but I've never seen any way to feed the information back to the film-makers. So I'd classify it as a gimmick. Although it's quite a good one.

It is a great Boy's Own Adventure type of film.

Or are they just alternate endings, both of which are selectable the DVD?
Are they both shown as part of the main film like in Sailor Of The King?

I don't know, I've not seen it.

To the best of my knowledge the UK release had one (original) ending, but in the US it often played with both.

btw, The Family Way; The Boulting Brothers & Film Culture refers to SOTK as Singlehanded and (it's also common practice for an ambiguously titled UK film to be given a more obvious US title) and as it was made for a US studio I can envisage a test screener having two endings.

I have a DVD-R copy of this film taken from CH4 with the commercials editd out. Would love to do a swap with you for "Forever England".

Let me know if this is OK.
