I am looking for a film now that i have the title of it!! The Film is called "And Soon The Darkness" Starring Michele Dotrice,Sandor Eles,John Nettleton, Clare Kelly. Robert Fuest, 1970 GB 99mins. Unappealing women-in-peril thriller, scripted by Brian Clemens and centered on a young nurse (Franklin) whose holiday companion (Dotrice)is savagely murdered by a sex maniac on a lonely country road as they cycle through France.A very Predictable, implausible, and not a little nasty!! IF ANY ONE HAS A COPY OF THIS FILM AND IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH REGION! I DONT MIND COPIES OF THIS FILM PROVIDING THEY ARE GOOD COPIES/I HAVE SEEN A POSTER ADVERTISED ON EBAY FOR THIS FILM BUT IT IS NOT THE POSTER I WANT EVEN THOUGH THAT IS A RARE PEICE!!! ANYONE

I have an excellent tape of this thriller and can either make you a tape or a DVD-R of it.
Best,
Aphra

Hello, cobalt,

I'm glad you brought that film title up. I'd never heard of it but it sounds like a gem of a mystery/terror film.
Pamela Franklin's always been excellent. When she was younger she appeared in "Our Mother's House" (1967) with Dirk Bogarde, who said that making the film with her and the other children was a real joy. I also hadn't known much about Michelle Dotrice but once looked up, her theatrical connection with father Roy Dotrice and husband Edward Woodward is fascinating.

I'd enjoy hearing what you think of the film. I just ordered it at the library to have a look myself.

Best,

Barbara

I don't think you'll be disappointed Barbara. It's a cracking little sub-Hitchcock thriller with some great location work. If your main experience of Michele Dotrice is as the simpering Betty in SOME MOTHERS DO 'AVE 'EM, you will, I'm sure, be surprised...

It's one of the films which showed great promise for Bryan Forbes' brief tenure as the head of Elstree Studios. Shame that the real reputation of this and his other productions only came after time, and long after he was removed..

Hope you enjoy it. Do let us know what you think.

Thanks for that, Smudge. Turns out I can't get it from my interlibrary loan. The only place that has the film is a library across the country which won't loan out of state. When I do find it, I'll definitely report back. Sounds like an excellent thriller. It looks worth a search.

Best,

Barbara
