Hello, Everyone -
I've been looking for this one for several years, too - either a clean NTSC VHS copy, or a clean DVD (Region 1 preferred, but others will work, too). Any useful leads welcome - I might be able to help out with some rarities in trade, but NTSC VHS only - no PAL, no DVD burning. Many thanks in advance - |

I have a good VHS copy of Rimmer that I would be delighted to copy for anyone who wants it. My terms are as usual, namely I refuse to charge for copies but I do expect people to cover the price of the postage and the blank video.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum, and for years I have been searching for a copy of The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer. Just wondering if anybody could please copy me this movie in VHS or DVD. Also I'm only 16 and live in Australia, so would anybody accept money order? Many thanks guys! Take care! Peter Cook rules!

Hi,
RISE AND RISE OF MICHAEL RIMMER is one of my all time favourite films taking the best influences from 60s shows like "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" and before film makers thought that nudity equalled comedy. I saw it in the Cosmo in Glasgow on its release and it is one of only 3 occasions where I fell of my seat laughing. It didn't get a wide release and I was glad to see it a second time when the Cosmo brought it back as a b-movie to "A Day in the Death of Joe Egg" and then it was gone - until November 1979 when I got my very first video recorder and it was the first thing I taped. I still have the tape (complete with TV ads) and run it at least once a year and always before a general election. Years later I taped it on Channel 5 which showed a more complete version, but there is still one scene missing when the cabinet is talking about the defence budget and I assume it's cut because it was in non-decimal currency. (The budget was 3 / 6d.) Last year I got to meet David Frost who produced the film and asked him about it and he was obviously pleased someone remembered it. I believe he owns the rights and has no plans for a DVD release. I can make a copy on to DVD-R if anyone is interested - I am pretty sure David Frost won't object. Thanks for letting me join your very exclusive forum! |

BLACKETT: I'd like you to remember that basically you know, friends, this election isn't about money or material goods - it's about morality. The Labour Party is nothing if it is not a moral crusade.....It's hardly necessary for me to remind you what the Labour Party stands for. The Labour Party stands for.....well, erm...we stand for....we stand for.....we stand for.....Look! I'm not standing for anymore of this! Get that bloody man off the auto-cue. Pull your fingers out!
HUTCHISON: Now, Michael - what do you think we should do?! RIMMER: Well, I think we should reduce income tax, reduce purchase tax and increase the old age pensions. HUTCHISON: You must be mad! RIMMER: Well, I think it's important that we honour our pre-election pledges. HUTCHISON: No - come come, Michael. No one expects that of us. The normal routine is that we say we're all shocked and staggered and then blame it all onthe last lot. Classic. I got it from C5 some years ago but don't have facilities to copy it though am thinking of investing in a VCR/DVD combo, currently just have old playback-only DVD.

Does anyone have a copy of this on dvd or video ? I can't find any record of it being released on dvd. Peter Cook is great in this (if my memory is to be trusted, as it was a long time ago I saw it).
