Hi,

There's a few old British comedies that I'd quite like to see again. I think they pop up on tv quite often but sadly seem unavailable on DVD or video

NEXT TO NO TIME
RAISING THE WIND
A FRENCH MISTRESS
HAPPY IS THE BRIDE
PLEASE TURN OVER
LADY GODIVA RIDES AGAIN
OUR GIRL FRIDAY
FOLLY TO BE WISE
DOUBLE BUNK
GEORDIE
THE ADMIRAL CRICHTON
RAISING A RIOT
IT'S GREAT TO BE YOUNG
THE BRIDAL PATH
FOR BETTER OR WORSE
FATHER BROWN
WHAT A WHOPPER!
MEET MR LUCIFER
JOHN AND JULIE

It's a big list I know, but I am a big fan of the likes of Kenneth More, James Robertson Justice, Cecil Parker and Ian Carmichael, and they seem sadly under-repesented on DVD.

Ah, sorry about that, for a moment I seem to have been possessed by the ghost of Sam Goldwyn and have brought to life an old David Niven anacdote.....

Anyway, thanks for the responces. I'm amazed at how little British comedy is represented on DVD. I have the various 'Carry Ons', 'Doctors' and 'St Trinians' movies, plus the Norman Wisdom and most of the Peter Sellers ones, but beyond that it's a bit sparse. Alastiar Sim, for example, seems very under-represented, with little beyond a HMV-only 'St Trinians' set, a "Green Man/School For Scondrals" double-bill (both of which I got around 2002) and this years "An Inspector Calls". Apart from a couple of others, that's more or less your lot.

Quite agree, Alastair Sim is grossly under-represented in official DVD releases..
'Happiest days of your life' and 'Laughter in paradise' are both well overdue.

Of those that other people don't seem to have mentioned I have Lady Godiva Rides Again - if you need I would be happy to do you a copy. I also have For Better For Worse and Double Bunk which I could shove on the same tape.

Can i just say that i absolutely adore Dennis Price. He should be much better known and appreciated among 'the masses' Incredible style and a unique vocal delivery. I always feel frustrated when people speak of 'kind hearts & coronets' applauding (rightly) Alec Guinness' genius, but overlooking Dennis' performance. And his interaction with Peter Jones & Ian Carmichael in School for scoundrels. Always a 'standout' performer, perhaps too subtle for superstardom..
By the way, mentioning 'Double bunk' Janette Scott in those 'short shorts'....Phew!! :surprise:

Oh Dennis is wonderful! :)

I've been recently listening to the first series of THE NAVY LARK and he steals every scene he is in. I'm quite gutted that he only made the one series, as Stephen Murray's no replacement.

"Grand morning, isn't it?"

I think Dennis Price is good in the Charlie Drake film "The Cracksman"
