We have now found out that Richard Hearne died of a heart attack due it was thought to heavy smoking.
More finds: The engagement was announced 22 Apr 2005 between the Hon. Rupert Arthur Lawson Johnston (b. 1972), son of the 3rd Baron Luke (b. 1933), of Middleton, Leicestershire, by his second wife the former Sarah Louise Hearne, & Lucy Zara Janaway, daughter of Mr and Mrs Philip Janaway, of Didmarton, Gloucestershire. Rupert is a grandson maternally of Richard Hearne. Richards wife still lives at Maidstone Kent and recently was heard on BBC radio Kent talking about Richard and family. Trying to get a recording of this. All very interesting... |

I too remember Richard Hearne,Mr Pastry in the days of black and white t.v. and later when colour came in ! I believe his house was called Sunny (something) Farm, ijn Bearsted, Maidstone, Kent, just along the road from where we live. I think I found this information out when in the late 60s early we moved to the area and I was looking for another "Hearne" in our Maidstone telephone directory. Bob |

Richard Hearne is buried in the churchyard in the village of St Mary's Platt near Borough Green in Kent where he lived for many years from the late 1940s. He lived in an old house called Platt Farm in Long Mill Lane. He had a theatre in his grounds in a barn which featured regularly on TV, and has now been converted into a house.
He regularly provided a celebrity for opening the local fete e.g. Ian Carmichael, Dulcie Gray, Fred Emney, and was President of the local dramatic society in which his wife, Yvonne, and daughters Cetra and Sarah were active members. Richard Hearne was very active in his charity work, raising money for therapy pools for spastic homes and was later awarded an OBE. He also appeared in at least one film with Buster Keaton and appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. |

]I was about 4 when I left - although my grandparents lived there until about 1969. Last time I was there would have been around then.
You've nudged my memory as I do have some very vague recollection of someone famous in the entertainment industry from the immediate area but the name arty-dave mentions didn't ring a bell. You should have mail. FELL FELL A signature is no substitute for a life |
