The answer is under your very nose elsewhere in the forum, but if you can't find it through a search I believe I have a copy from which I could make you a disc for a quid or two or a trade.

Hello, Ceroker,

I believe I've read in another thread that French audiences thought the film quite funny. If you are not French, may I ask how you reacted to the humor of the film? Does the humor exist in its being slapstick and/or focusing on an embarrassing situation, which I guess humor often does? Although I've not seen the film, and trying to keep an open mind, I still find myself reluctant to the main focus. This may be a gender thing.

No wish to preempt Ceroker's reply, but, for my part, I would say that one of the things that made this affair so funny was that the gentleman took this very undignified business so seriously. He almost treated his act like an operatic recital. I have a little book about Le Petomane which reproduces photographs of the gentleman dressed to the nines and posing like some great star of the theatre.
Rossiter gets this aspect of the character to perfection. I love the scene where Le Petomane, becoming old and frail, resolutely refuses the implorations of his wife to cut the twenty one gun salute from his act.

Probably how to make the best of a physical abnormality that allowed him to gulp in air from the wrong end and produce melodies from the same place..much as one can alter the pitch of air coming from the neck of a balloon I imagine. Without wishing to be too indelicate, according to my book, Le Petomane was also able to ensure, because of his peculiar physical make-up, that normal functions had been completely taken care of before he stepped out on to the stage!
