Default Lost in Siberia (1991)

This is an Anglo-Russian co-production (Russian title Zateryannyy v Sibiri) made in 1991. The film stars Anthony Andrews (of Brideshead Revisited fame; he was also was one of the producers) in an otherwise all-Russian cast, directed by Alexander Mitta. It is said to be the first film made in Russia to deal with Stalin's gulags and seems to be highly rated (see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103322/). I also know (though this is not a British connection) that it has a score by the excellent Leonid Desyatnikov.

I believe, from having searched around, that it was once available on video. Does anyone have a copy - I'd be very glad to pay for a copy, or an actual video if affordable.

Question

Hi Laura,

Thanks for replying, but I suspect what you have is a different film. Does what you have star Anthony Andrews, with music by Desyatnikov?

All best,

Boris

Default Found a copy

Well, I found a VHS copy from (of all places) Denmark (titled 'Den Glemte Mand' over there). Unfortunately a good deal of the film is in Russian, and the subtitles were in Danish. That said, the story was reasonably clear enough visually to get some gist of what is going on, and both the cinematography (if that's the right word) and the film score are excellent. So too, as far as I could tell, is the acting by all concerned. I've now ordered a second-hand copy of the English VHS (on Highfliers) which has been deleted, but I hope to post a more detailed review once I've seen this.
