One company is called "Encore" which shows older films. There's: The Love Channel: Magnificent Obsession etc. The Mystery Channel: Agatha Christie movies etc The Western Channel: You wouldn't believe the number of singing cowboy movies Hollywood made in the 40's & 50's. The True Channel: Movies relating to real events like "Sink The Bismarck" or the excellent "Conspiracy" or "13 Days". The Action Channel: Everything from Jurassaic Park to Schwartzenegger. It showed a film I had almost forgotten about a few months ago - Michael Caine as a German Mercenary in the 30 years war "The Last Valley". Have you seen it? Did you know that James Clavell wrote & directed it? The Independent Fim Channel: Shows films that most (Americans) wouldn't normally hear of like "Run Lola Run" and "Topsy Turvey". The Family Channel: Disney Movies and Doris Day etc. There's also a couple of general movie channels it runs. |

To make my life complete, I wish the BBC would actually run BBC1 and BBC2 as channels over here...and to make my life REALLY complete, I wish I could get Sky Sports 1, 2 & 3.
Without doubt, there's a lot more choice, my American wife couldn't believe there's only 5 British TV channels (actually 6 as I lived in Wales at the time but who counts S4C?) My father has Sky TV and IIRC, there are something like 20 movie channels plus PPV movie channels too. |

The Red Beret (1953) has been shown on Channel 4 in the UK quite a few times. There's something very odd about their copy, though. Stanley Baker's voice is dubbed in it by another actor who sounds like John Van Eyssen. Even more oddly, when the film was shown on Harlech television in the UK in the 1970's, it was again under its original British title, but Stanley Baker's voice wasn't dubbed by anyone else. The film is not available on video and the only way to get a recording of it is to tape it off air when next it's shown on television.
