Was Oliver Reed an uncredited biker in this? Or am I thinking of another film?

Surely not. He was a big star by then wasn't he?
I think I spotted Fred Woods though, riding without a helmet - the rebel!!

That's what I thought - memory plays tricks. The film I'm thinking of had Reed in black leather and the leader of a gang of similarly clad bikers I think. And as I remember he was acting very intimidatingly towards people in a cafe and I seem to recall flicking fingers a lot.

Default Hindle Wakes / Leather Boys

Looking for copies of these on DVD, my DVD recorder didn't sync up with Beeb 2 broadcasts and I didn't end up recording complete versions. It was an absolute shower. I'm sure many of you recorded these so please drop me a line. TTFN

hinle wakes (the version with belle chrystal and edmund gwenn) appears from time to time in the early hours of the morning on abc (our equivalent of bbc) tv here. i taped it and watch it from time to time - great film and underrated too - amongst other things i think the way they did the credits was very creative for the era. love the music they used in it too.

Reed did have one fling at playing gay, though swishy rather than matcho in leather - uncredited in The League of Gentlemen (1960).

Nice to see my old mate Fred Woods get a mention.
I knew and worked with him for over twenty years and he was known in the game as The Angry Villager. I tell a story about Fred on my web but it might be a bit crude for this site....

Aitch,

I watched it on BBC4 the other night for the first time. Very good acting, especially Dudley Sutton as Pete. When Reggie was packing his case to return to his wife, the forlorn Pete was reeling off reason after reason why Reggie shouldn't go. "I look after you don't I, I bring you cups of tea....." and continued with a whole list of other simple domestic duties he performed which Reggie's wife seemed totally incapable of!

The last scene where Reggie walks out of the seamen's pub, now fully aware of Pete's sexuality, was terrific. Pete started to follow him and then stopped, the game was up, and so he just stood and watched as Reggie walked over the bridge, presumably back to his Gran's (Gladys Henson) probably the only thing on his mind was deep regret at selling his beloved new Triumph!

BBC4 have had this homage to homosexuality running for ages now, perhaps they'll do one for heteros sometime, or would that be asking too much?

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"

The commercial dvd is terrible quality, one of the worst I've ever seen, this weeks's BBC4 transmission was much better
