I have The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Greed of William Hart in my collection. A friend of a friend claims he has a copy of The Ticket of Leave Man for me, but the proof shall be in the pudding!

My copies are from very good prints and are on VHS tape. I am making all transfers onto DVD-R should anyone be interested.

Would anyone happen to know if any of Tod Slaughter's stage performances were ever caught on film? That would be something to see!

Sincerely,
Mike

I'm still trying to find the following Tod Slaughter movies:

- Darby and Joan - 1937 - dir. by Syd Courtenay (Rock Studios / MGM)

- Soldiers without Uniform - 1942 (this featurette's existence is attested by the fact that it was passed for certificate at the BBFC on Dec. 16, 1941, and got an "U", without cuts. The exact running time was 33mins 19sec. - apparently this featurette was never released...

- Bothered by a Beard - 1945 - a featurette directed by E.V.H. Emmett

and the two alleged "features" made of episodes of the 1952 TV series, "Inspector Morley Investigates", directed by Victor M. Gover:
- King of the Underworld
- Murder at Scotland Yard

plus of course the episodes as separate featurettes (including "Murder at the Grange", which was shown some months ago on BBC), and the "separate" featurette "A Ghost for Sale", not directly related to the main series but having the same director and principals...

Thank you for your help !

I would be interested for a copy (vhs or dvd...) of "Murder at the Grange", as well as for other films as "The Crimes of Stephen Hawke", my own tape being poor for this title. I have a lot of British films, if you can contact me via my email, I'll send you the complete lists.
In any case, thank you very much for your answer.

PS: Something must be REALLY wrong, as I tried to send myself an email to my own email, and it doesn't work !!!

which is my alternate mail box.
And please forgive me for the inconvenience (this is probably not the correct English word, I have a doubt ?)

I agree with you, "quality varies"... but the truth is that their DVD of "Maria Marten or the Red Barn" is a catastrophe, with almost ten minutes missing (from an already short film) - I noticed ten cuts going from some shots to entire subplots), and the "quality" is atrocious. I bought this DVD only for the beautiful artwork, but my own copy, recorded years ago from Channel Four on a VHS, then transferred to DVD, is magnificent in comparizon... ;)

It's not actually 'their' release. Oldies is a mail order DVD distributor. This sin't their release, it is Alpha Video. So do not be put off by them by this release, just be put off by Alpha.

Amazon also sell the same DVD. This is about to be released by Odeon Entertainment here in the UK. I recorded can commentary for bthe film with Andy Boot, author of Fragments of Fear. I am hoping to license it to them.
