Smile From beyond the grave?

hi everyone,

wondered if anyone could tell me if the 1974 british horror film From beyond the Grave - stars peter cushing and david warner - is available on dvd ? Or if it is not if there are any plans to release it on dvd?

Is a very underated film - similar to many other british early 70s horror productions - in that it comprises of short stories based around a common theme, in this case a very 'curious' antique shop run by peter cushing.

Good timing. Retromedia have just announced plans to release this film on November 14th 2006 in the US.

This was Kevin Connor's debut feature, working with cinematographer Alan Hume as he did on his next five feature films.

I wouldn't hold out too many hopes of it being a very worthwile disc personally. The old Warner US laserdisc I have will take some beating.

Wink thanks for the info

thanks for that info JamesM,

have to ask how come americans always seem to get their hands on our films before we do? You would have thought the obvious place to release it first would be the uk!

I do have a multi region dvd player so will probably import it rather than hope it might one day be released here on dvd.

Anyone have any info on dvd releases for other british horror classics like tales from the crypt or tales that witness madness?

regards,
amicus.

A pristine presentation of the feature, in 1.85:1.

You've got to ask yourself the question "how can an indie label release a film that is owned by Warners" - Warners do not sub-license their titles.

I'm sure there will be decent DVD release some time in the future. I just don't believe this one is it.

Superb film and kindly supplied by a member on here. Worth watching purely for Donald Pleasance.

WARNER DO sub licence films have a look at several special editions that have been repackaged with FOH stills etc if you have enough cash they will talk to you

Yes but these titles are not licensed out. They contain the same discs I imagine.

Are you sure that Warner Brothers actually own the film and not just some distribution rights? It is just that I do not see any registration of the film made by Warner Brothers in the Library of Congress. If they only had distribution rights in the US, they would have expired a few years ago.

Hello Amicus! I too am very keen on these Amicus compilation films, and I've been desperately waiting for the DVD release of From Beyond the Grave (and the other two you mention), so thanks very much for prompting this information!

Its nice to see this title out at last (Donald Pleasences daughter scared the hell out of me when I was young), hopefully they will bering out the Amicus back catalogue. I'm still looking for the film where someone think they can capture death - although i dont think its an Amacus either - can someone remind me of the name?
