Look no further than Miranda (1948) with the lovely Glynis Johns as Miranda the mermaid.

There was a sequel, Mad About Men (1954), but it wasn't as good as the original (IMHO).

For the Melies film, it may be on a 5 DVD pack called Treasury of Early Cinema 1894-1913.

There was also an American film made in 1948 called "Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid" starring William Powell, Ann Blyth and Irene Hervey. It can be found at Robert's Hard to Find Videos at http://www.robertsvideos.com.

As I live in the USA, it is hard to find sellers here who have PAL copies available, but Robert's does make all his films in any format one desires.

Why not look into that new film 'Fishtales'? it's not out yet but it was shown at Cannes so it must be finished... if I recall it's a kids film with some slapstick humour and stars Kelly Brook and Billy Zane, it's probably worth trying to get hold of that as you might get a preview screening or something!?! If you find out anything further let me know as my niece will definitely wanna see it (she's currently attached at the hip to her 'barbie mermaidia' dol thingy) and I'd certainly be keen to see more of Kelly Brook in a mermaid costume... Lol!

Good luck with the festival

Oooo... I'm glad this has been bumped since I have a mermaid movie I really really like.

'She Creature' (2001)... which I think is a terrific movie starring Rufus Sewell and has a wonderful turn for Brit actor Aubrey Morris.

Beware... its not 'Splash' by any stretch of the imagination.

Obviously, the chance to bring up MR PEABODY, MiRANDA, SPLASH, SHE CREATURE and the new FISHTALES isn't ever a wrong thing to do. Bump away!

Hopefully you have the excellent Bobby Bare song from the early '70s, too.
