Default Desperately Seeking Launder & Gilliat

Has any one else noticed a distinct lack of Launder and Gilliat movies either on VHS or on DVD at the moment?

On VHS there only seems to be the first four ‘St Trinans’ movies and ‘ Left, Right And Centre’ available, while on DVD it seems just as bad, with just the ‘St Tinans’ movies (again) and ‘The Green Man’ present on those shiny discs (and even then, the ‘St Trinians’ movies are only available from HMV).

That’s just five movies on each medium, no ‘Green For Danger, no ‘Happiest Days Of Your Life’, which is a great pity.

Does any one know if there are any DVD's planned?

I've got I See a Dark Stranger on DVD. One of their best but rarely shown on tv - maybe because of it's depiction of 'the troubles'.

What Region is it? I've been browsing Blackstar/Sendit and Play, but it doesn't seem to be there.

It's been a few years since I last saw "I See A Dark Stranger" and it's one of the movies that I'm quite keen to rewatch. I've just finished reading the Launder and Gilliat volume in the 'British Film Makers' and it's made me eager to rewatch a few of their movies.

Sadly it was R1 (and there are no extras) but most players can be hacked to multiregion.

It's a great film with fine moments of black comedy; particularly Deborah Kerr disposing of the corpse in a wheelchair and the funeral procession. It does tend to swing from thriller to romance to slapstick throughout.

Aphra has a few Gilliat and Launder films that feature the two introducing their films. I think they were broadcast in the early days of CH4.

Thanks for your help :)

I've just checked on Amazon.com and they do stock it. They also stock a VHS version of "The Happiest Days Of Your Life", which at $29.95 is a bit too expensive. (My Amercian copy of "Bedazzled" I bought for under $10 so it seems a very high price for a video.)

Apparently at one point there were also American VHS versions of "Green For Danger" and "Endless Night", but sadly they seem to be out of stock.
