Best of luck.... the Ivor Novello version is wonderful, but a preserved copy has only emerged fairly recently, and I don't think it's been screened outside of festivals for nearly seventy years. I've never heard of the Aherne version being shown...

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I saw the Ivor Novello version at the National Film Theatre a couple of years ago but I don't own a copy. Hopefully it will be released on DVD at some point.

Will this film's fame and this recent emergence be more likely to foist it into DVD production sooner than later? I hope so - I don't think waiting another 70 years will gain an even larger audience.

I'd love to think so....but as labels are only just getting around to releasing Silent Hitchcock, I doubt Adrian Brunel's magnum opus is going to be on the radar for a while. Shame, as it's great. Ivor Novello is superb, Mabel Poulton heartbreaking, and the support cast...Mary Clare and Elsa Lanchester in particular, great value.

I believe this one wasn't seen for several years because the author put the block on it.

This is one Ivor Novello film I still have not seen sadly and as you say Penfold its most likely not on any release radar at the moment. I am not holding my 'You know what' for any BFI release too.

If anyone does release it, it could be the Bfi....then again, I can see one possible obstacle above and beyond the usual... however chaste the film is, you also have to remember the subject matter; a thirty-something composer eloping abroad with a schoolgirl....all I can say is, keep an eye on the NFT programmes and forthcoming attractions at the Mediatheque...

This is the way we get to see most Ivor Novello films like the 'Rat trilogy', 'Down Hill' or 'The Lodger~ 1925 version'
