Default Looking for Freddie Francis movies

I'm an American (please don't boo) who came on this site recently looking for obscure British films. What a find this website was. The first was a Jack Clayton film called "Our Mother's House." I love Gothic dramas, anything with a touch of the supernatural or weird.

Anyway... I was deeply saddened by the recent passing of Freddie Francis. I know that he disliked many, if not all, of the horror films he directed, but I consider some of them to be the greatest examples of the genre. He's no different than Mario Bava, in that respect. Both seemed to have a great disdain, yet a great talent, for directing supernatural thrillers.

I'm looking for any of his films on DVD, letterboxed of course. There aren't many available over here (the films he directed for Hammer, which I already have). The films he made for Amicus and Tyburn are extremely rare on video, many of which I've seen. But most are bootlegged, and the quality, as would be expected, is incredibly poor. Not that I mind. Anyone who hunts down these rare gems knows to expect, and accept, the grainy image and sound.

If any of you would like to make my most fervent cinephile dreams come true, I would love to hear from you.

I may not be able to trade you (although I can track down any title you might want, either on dvd or tv), but I will definitely compensate you for your trouble. In advance, just to relieve any nagging doubts.

Please let me know.

Three of his Amicus films are available in the US on region 1 discs. Dr Terror's House of Horrors and Torture Garden. You might see bootlegs of They Came from Beyond Space from but the quality will most likely be shit. Doctor and the Devils and The Creeping Flesh are available in the US yet not here.

You can still get the Amicus box set with Dr Terror and the House of Horrors (with a Freddie Francis commentary to boot).

Anchor Bay Entertainment UK: Amicus Collection, The (5 Disc box set), Roy Ward Baker, Paul Annett, Freddie Francis, Peter Duffell (DVD)

It's £25 on Amazon.co.uk.

Me too. As a relative newbie I don't know whether I sufficiently 'on board' to welcome you, but it's good to see a poster with similar tastes! btw, has anyone got a clean copy of 'Our Mother's House'? I got a collector's DVD-R copy recently, but there are moments when the picture (taken, I think, from a telecast) jumps and the soundtrack lags half a second behind the picture.

bws,

Boris

Well, my copy of OUR MOTHER'S HOUSE isn't perfect but it's definitely better than that!
Hooray for Jack Clayton, I say.
