Default Damaged video tape: WW2 documentary films

I have some VHS tapes that have not been stored well during some building work, and really annoyingly several have become damp and mouldy. Cleaning them and trying to play one of the worst ones produces a snowstorm with a tantalising glimpse of bits of film and a non-existent sound track.

My fault entirely...

One of them had really precious stuff on it - fortunately it has a detailed index card (unlike some others). It contained:

1 Film: Asking for Trouble (1942) shown on C4 Wed 24.10.84

2. A series of Ministry of Information short films, shown on C4 Thursday 25.10.84, as part of Leslie Halliwell's Britain at War series which he introduced:

Do It Now
The First Days
Squadron 992
Save Rubber
London Can Take It (this may be available commercially, not sure)
Mr Proudfoot Shows a Light
Dawn Guard
Christmas under Fire
Britain at Bay

Does anyone have access to any of these - would be willing to pay... I'd love to try to recover some or all of these

Many thanks
Rob

These shorts were usually supporting some key war documantary or drama of the time - FIRES WERE STARTED, DESERT VICTORY, WENT THE DAY WELL? or somesuch. Would you know what the main film was? The series was called THE BRITISH AT WAR. I have them all, but have not indexed the shorts or the dates of showing. I certainly have MR PROUDFOOT SHOWS A LIGHT.

Rob,

A ll the shorts on your list feature in a boxed set available from The Imperial War Museum/DD Home Entertainment. I just bought it myself for £39.99 direct from DDHE:

British Home Front At War, The - Box Set

It includes over sixty such films and it's a treasure trove.
