I just have to correct this. It was called The Bofors Gun. That being the name of the anti-aircraft gun (40mm auto-canon) designed by the Swedish company of Bofors that was probably the most popular and commonly used allied anti-aircraft weapon during WWII.

A boffer is something quite different, whichever meaning you take for it
