I'm resurrecting an old thread but although Yield is very good, Value for Money is definitely my Favourite :)

Thanks in advance

Hi I am looking for Steaming with Miss Dors, I have heard mixed reviews on it but I want to see it for my self. The only thing I really have to trade is a very rare Jayne Mansfield film that she made in Hollywood called The Wayward Bus, it's not restored and is unlikely to be released due to rights issues but it a great film one of Jayne's rare dramatic roles.
Hello
Steaming is listed on New and Classic Films on DVD and Blu-ray Direct | Movie Mail UK, it retails at £11.99 and there is free delivery for orders in the UK.......Hope that helps...
Hey thanks!! I didn't know it had been released.
I'm looking for confirmation of the UK release dates (full date, not just the year) of the following Diana Dors films. I've tried wikipedia and the BFI but to no avail, the films are
* Dancing With Crime
* My Sister and I
* Penny and the Pownall Case
* A Boy, A Girl and A Bike
* The Girl Who Rode The Palio (La Ragazza Del Palio)
* Passport To Shame
* Scent Of Mystery
* King Of The Roaring 20's
* The Counterfeit Constable (Allez France)
* Deep End
* What The Swedish Butler Saw
* Keep It Up Downstairs
* Steaming.
Many thanks in advance if you can help
When in doubt, why not try some books? Denis Gifford's The British Film Catalogue, at the very least, narrows things down to the month and year, although not the exact day, of UK release. The entries, in a few cases, can prove a bit misleading when they point to films which had a very early trade showing, but were not released generally until some time later (such as Over The Moon or Daybreak); however, in such cases, notes are generally included at the bottom of the entries indicating the date of their eventual public releases. Its introduction also does a pretty good job of pointing out just how problematic it can often be to establish, or even try to establish, single dates as the release dates for many British films. I don't happen to have my copy of it to hand just this very moment, but if you'd like, and you don't mind waiting a bit, I could certainly get you the months and years that it cites for the Dors films you've listed.Originally Posted by seanflynn76
A book I do have to hand, though, is David Caute's fairly good (although at times overopinionated) biography of Joseph Losey, called A Revenge On Life. The last film on your list, Steaming, was Losey's final film as well as Dors's, and the book cites it as having 'opened on 7th June 1985 at the Classic cinemas in Haymarket, Tottenham Court Road and Chelsea, and at the Odeon, Kensington. Censorship (absurdly) banned children under eighteen; the language of women, not their nudity, was held unacceptable.' There is a little more about this initial reception (and its earlier screening at the Cannes Film Festival), but I'm not sure whether you're looking just for release dates or anything further about the release of the films. There is little more about Dors, however, apart from a mention of her salary (£24,000), and an excerpt of a note that Losey wrote to The Times to complain about Dors's obituary, which he called 'a put-down and casual dismissal of her work' and 'completely negative'.
So, at least there's one for you! I'll look around and see if there isn't anything on any of your other films lying about here.
