I am asking if anyone has a copy of 'The Queen's Guards'. It was made in 1961.

If you can help and have a spare copy, I would be happy to pay for the postage etc.

    I live in South Australia.

I don't want to put anyone off watching it - but it's not a lost Michael Powell masterpiece. Far from it. There are good reasons why it hasn't been seen very often.

    See my review

I have a tape of this, obtained from my contact at the Nicuragnian Broadcasting Corporation (they screen their battered print of this film twice a year apparently, as films about the military are very popular over there...). But I am not willing to make a copy, however !

But do you agree with my review of it?

Hi everyone, would anyone have a copy of this to sell to me at reasonable cost please?

I'm an admire of Michael Powell's work and it doesn't look like this film is going to recieve a DVD release or TV showing anytime soon, the pageantry side of this film I feel may appeal to me.

This 1961 CinemaScope / Technicolor film has only been shown once on television in this country and that was on BBC 1 thirty-six years ago on Sunday, July 28th, 1974 and hasn't been seen since. Of course, it was shown in pan and scan.

Before you say you want a copy, read my review. I won't enhance your opinion of Michael Powell's work.

There are a lot of other films that he made that I would suggest should be seen before this one. In fact all of his other films should be seen before this one

    Tonight at 9pm on BBC1

    For Queen and Country

A documentary that looks like it's doing much the same as what The Queen's Guards set out to do - to show that the Guards regiments aren't just "Chocolate Box" soldiers that look good at the Royal parades but that they're really front line troops who are often in the thick of the action

Documentary following the Grenadier Guards as they prepare to lead the 2010 Trooping the Colour. But these men have had precious little time to prepare; as fighting soldiers, they have just spent six months on the front line in Afghanistan's Helmand Province.

Trooping the Colour is one of the greatest ceremonial events on earth. It's a dazzling occasion, but this is an event that's far more than pageantry; at the roots of the ceremony are discipline and survival.

The ceremony is based on the tradition of carrying, or 'trooping', the Colour - or flag - of the regiment through the ranks of soldiers, clearly visible above the smoke and dust of battle, rallying the men. This year it falls upon 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards to perform this prestigious role.

This is the story of how one and a half thousand men and women join together to create one of the greatest military ceremonies on earth. It is a ceremony with just one standard: Excellence.

Jess Conrad (Dankworth in THE QUEEN'S GUARDS)

Watch Jess in his film ALIKI, MY LOVE...
Jess has a major role in this Greek/US movie, with Wilfrid Hyde White..:

These are probably the worst [technical quality] YouTube clips, you will ever see ! (but the film is exceedingly rare...)
