Default Juke Box Jury

Does anyone know whether any episodes of the sixties music show Juke Box Jury hosted by David Jacobs still exist?

It would be especially great to see the complete episode that featured The Beatles voting "Hit" or "Miss".

Dave.

Didn't they discover the audio recording of that show, and put something together with stills from the show? However, I believe the actual video was wiped!

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

I have seen bites of the famous episode featuring The Beatles on different docos for the group.
It would seem that at least a part of that show was kept - or maybe recorded by the news media of the day.

Surely no one in their right minds would have wiped the Beatles episode???

Dave.

A few years ago, when I briefly ran a CD label specialising in British TV themes, the son of a musician was trying to persuade me to release a CD of his audio copy of The Beatles appearance on Juke Box Jury. He claimed to have got the go-ahead from Apple and the BBC (something I very much doubted) but in any case I felt the quality was really not good enough.

Apparently a few people recorded the audio via a home tape-recorder as it was broadcast, but there were BBC OB technical problems at the time which meant some distortion was evident. He also missed a few seconds at the beginning or the end, as I recall. I must look out the battered cassette he sent me and give it another play.

But in answer to your question, yes, there is no existing recording of this programme, more's the pity.

I have a complete, uncut episode of JUKE BOX JURY on DVD which was originally broadcast on 3rd December 1959, featuring Nina & Frederick, David McCallum & Jill Ireland, and compered by David Jacobs. The length is 28 minutes and it has a good picture with no annoying timecode.

I've got an episode on video somewhere which has exactly that line-up, but it was definitely late 1960, not 1959. I know that because one of the discs voted on was Adam Faith's Lonely Pup, which got a severe panning from Nina & Frederik and was voted a miss! Lonely Pup wasn't released until around November 1960.

Maybe it's a coincidence and you have another edition from 1959 with that identical line-up?

Geoffers - you're right - the episode I have on DVD was originally broadcast on BBCTV on Saturday 3rd December 1960, and not 1959. Sorry for my error.

I have that one too!

It was a great series... I wish there were more episodes available. Maybe in some dim, dank corner somewhere...
