Default Doctor Who

yes I know its very sad but I have decided to collect some Doctor Who series mainly the first four doctors and have already bought some vhs and dvds from ebay, what I really want to know is there a definitive list anywhere that gives what has been put out on dvd and vhs.

I believe all the available stories were brought out on VHS over the years.

This list, on Wikipedia, seems up to date for the DVDs:

Actually, it's not too sad.

Like many of my generation (I'm 40 this year ), I grew up with the series in the 1970s, and Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker were actually quite cool in their day. And like most, I grew out of the series when I hit my teens.

The think the only 'sad' element (in my opinion) are those out there who call themselves 'fans', but are in reality, obsessives about the series. It's the biggest thing in their lives, and they seem to spend a large part of it online dissecting the bloody series to the nth degree. Blimey, I enjoy British films and archive television, but I don't organise my life around it!

I too have a handful of the DVDs, simply for the (70s) nostalgia, and one has to say they're very well put together (all credit to the Restoration Team for their efforts).

I certainly would not want to try and collect the whole series its a lot of discs/vhs and would be very expensive to buy, I will only collect the first 4 doctors as they were the ones I grew up with and liked, I have been buying a few vhs episodes when they come up cheap from ebay, I have watched a few of the latest series and whilst they are ok they dont do anything for me at all, perhaps I just like wobbly scenery.

Same here, I've only got a few discs from the first 4 doctors and wouldn't get anything post-Baker. Pertwee was 'my' Doctor and so they're the ones I'm most interested in but I also like watching the two previous incarnations, especially Troughton. The new series is too high-tech for me, I prefer the dodgy CSO and 'men in rubber suits' type aliens.

just been working this out to collect all of the first 4 doctors DVDs I would need to collect 53 prob at a cost of aprox £500 and there are still the VHS to collect I dont somehow think I will be collecting all of them much as I like Doctor Who, I am just thinking of all the films I could get for that money.

I'd suggest sticking to the DVDs (as they slowly come out) rather than going for the VHS too. Some of the tapes command rather silly money on the second-hand market.

I always vowed never to collect Dr Who dvds 'cos I knew if I had one I'd want more. I decided to get just the old 60s movies instead .... of course, that led to Hartnell Daleks dvds, then Troughton Dalek dvds ..... then Troughton Cybermen dvds .... thank goodness I can't stand the new Dr Who series.

Bats.

Yes me too I am not over fond of the new series, it just does not feel like real 'Who'
