Default Avengers

I thought it would be rather nice to obtain all the B/W episodes of the Avengers (not so interested in the color eps) upon looking I find out they are not available here due to copyright problems but available in other countries.
Has anyone bought/ collected these episodes and can they tell me the best and cheapest way to go about it.

Cheers Marker

I am not sure where you obtained the 'copyrigyht' information from but it is not correct.

The 1963 onwards b/w ones were issued in the UK by Contender and often appear on Amazon Market Place and on Ebay.

The earlier 1962 series with Honor Blackman is or was available in Region 1 from America. I know because I bought them. The first series was wiped and the only copies will be if anyone has them privately.

Whilst I agree thay are now a bit pricey this applies to most obsolete DVDs.

The French sets are probably your best bet, about £22 plus postage from amazon.fr
They do have French titles but the subtitles are removable:
Amazon.fr: Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir : The Avengers, Vol.2 - Coffret 8 DVD: Patrick Macnee, Honor Blackman, Peter Smith, Peter Cregeen, Sarah Hellings, David Tucker, John Nettles: DVD

There are also French Blu-ray editions due shortly.

There are Region 1 sets available and you can get the Emma Peel Megaset ( all 51 B&W and colour episodes) for £34:50 approx plus postage from Amazon.com. They also do the Blackman episodes which generally have 6 episodes per set at £9:20 per set plus postage:

Amazon.com: The Avengers - The Complete Emma Peel Megaset (2006 Collector's Edition): Diana Rigg, Patrick MacNee: Movies & TV

No word at the moment on any British release. 2/E did licence them from Canal Plus (the copyright holders) but despite commentaries being recorded they decided not proceed and the rights are now back with Canal.

You crazy idiots - my name's McGill!

I signed up to the UK Amazon DVD rental service about a year or two back and they had ALL the Avengers series in about 30 or more DVDs.

I added them all to my list but they came up marked as 'long wait' or 'very long wait'. They were like this for months and months. then all of a sudden they were removed from the list, no explanation, no reason, just gone.

I was gutted.
